The Network for East Anglian Collaborative Outreach
(neaco) is a project aimed at increasing the number of
young people going into Higher Education. neaco consists
of the University of Cambridge (including its Colleges),
Anglia Ruskin University, the University of East Anglia,
Norwich University of the Arts, and the University of
Suffolk.
Take Your Place is the programme which is being run by
neaco in schools and colleges in East Anglia. Information
about how your personal information will be used by us in
connection with the administration of the Take Your Place
programme, and for related purposes, is available at

How can we help?

Where do I start?!
• Earn money as you study a nationally-recognised qualification
• Structured programme tied to a particular job: technical knowledge, competence and key skills
• 1 to 4 years to complete• Industry led – employers choose what’s available• Competitive to enter
• Study up to degree level• Can include workplace assessment, coursework,
exams… • Day release, evening classes, e-learning, e-
portfolios, block learning, blended learning.• Transferable skills: communication, numeracy,
problem solving and teamwork
What Levels are available?
• Level 2 (Intermediate): Equivalent to 5 GCSEs grades 4 and above.
• Level 3 (Advanced): Equivalent to 2 A levels.• Levels 4-7 (Higher): Equivalent to a foundation
degree and above. May be called HNC/HND.• Level 6 equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree (your
first degree at university).• Level 7 equivalent to a Master’s Degree.
• 1500 job roles in 120+ industries.• 19% of Advanced Apprentices progress onto HE• More than 850,000 people were doing an
apprenticeship between 2013-2014.• Over 25,000 apprenticeship vacancies are available
online at any one time.

The Facts!
• National minimum wage £3.90 per hour for all 1st year apprenticeships.-Some pay more than this.-Becomes £5.90 after a year for over 18s.
• Work a minimum of 30 hours a week.• 20 days paid holiday per year plus bank holidays.• Reduced likelihood of unemployment, increased job satisfaction.• Higher life-term earnings• 90% of apprentices stay in employment at the end of the apprenticeship.• Completing an advanced apprenticeship can earn you an extra £100,000
more over your lifetime.• NUS Apprenticeship Extra Card.

How do I find one?• Complete a CV and get it checked• Use the national apprenticeship website www.gov.uk/apply-
apprenticeship and create a free account then find an apprenticeship search.
• Register with training providers and college apprenticeship departments- fill in the application form
• Check apprenticeship website, local papers and www.youthoria.org and www.indeed.co.uk
• Register onto www.notgoingtouni.co.uk• Check school leaver programmes with local and
