Convergence
con·ver·gence denotes the approach toward a definite value, as time goes on; or to a definite point, a common view or opinion, or toward a fixed or equilibrium state.

Online Learning
As of the end of 2006– 38 states have state-led online programs or policies– 25 of these have state-led online programs
Growth of students taking online courses 15-20% per year In an online course for grades 9-12, students spend between 50-
75% of their time online Role of the online teacher
– Developing course content and structure– Communicating– Individualizing learning– Assessing, grading and promoting students

Major Technology Changes
One-to-one computing Greater use of Internet technology in the classroom
and a blended model of online learning Schools administrative technology, such as SIS, will
increasingly tie to instructional functions There will be an increase in the types of devices
that can access the Internet

Ms. DiMatteo sits down at her home computer to review her second grade students’ pretest results from the reading diagnostics test she had administered earlier in the day. The diagnostic assessment is given to the students and scoring results on a hand held device. These data, directly linked and generated by the school’s online learning and instructional management system and available via a web browser, quickly allow her to identify those students who need immediate intervention and those who need enrichment.
![Page 20: Data Presentation](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052900/555ae5d0d8b42a4c7d8b47e7/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
20
She then queries the embedded online expert systems for best instructional strategies to help each of the identified at-risk students overcome their diagnosed reading deficiencies as well as locate appropriate instructional resources from the statewide content repository. These resources have all been peer-reviewed,
based upon a solid research base and are aligned to state learning and performance standards.
![Page 21: Data Presentation](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052900/555ae5d0d8b42a4c7d8b47e7/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
21
Ms. DiMatteo then posts appropriate information to students’ parents, via an automatic notification system, along with recommendations and digital resources they can use at home to help their students. She then uses some digital content that she found and assigns them for students, based upon their individual needs, to work on the next day in class.

Conformant content will work with every conformant LMS.
Being SCORM conformant does not
affect the instructional content
Example: SCORM Interoperability
Sharable Content Object
Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) is a collection of standards and specifications for web-based e-learning. It defines communications between client side content and a host system called the run-time environment (commonly a function of a learning management system).

What is SIF?
Not a product, but a technical blueprint for PK-12 software that will enable diverse applications to interact and share data seamlessly
Designed for pK-12 technology providers and educators in an open, platform independent neutral standard way
Manages data within the pK-12 environment
Enables diverse applications to interact/share data – allowing best-of-breed
Works cross-platform, over a Web-based interface
Allows automated reporting

…refers to technologies, applications and practices for the collection, integration, analysis, and presentation of information and sometimes to the information itself. The purpose of business intelligence--a term that dates at least to 1958--is to support better decision making. Thus, BI is also described as a decision support system (DSS).

Needs
What are your greatest challenges around digital content?
What are your greatest data needs? In a “perfect” world, what would a
classroom look like in regards to educational technology applications?
In a “perfect” world, how would an office function in regards to school data?
![Page 45: Data Presentation](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052900/555ae5d0d8b42a4c7d8b47e7/html5/thumbnails/45.jpg)

A revolutionary new paradigm that seamlessly integrates standards-based open infrastructure with an enterprise-wide, knowledge-driven learning environment to produce a scalable, yet granular, cross-platform educational solution, delivering individualized learning experiences. This outside-of-the-box approach, when implemented as a one-stop knowledge portal, enables the classroom to gain an unbeatable competitive advantage in raising student achievment. This best-in-breed, standards-based differentiated enhancement is the most impactful bottom-line boosting platform for leveraging strategic classroom experiences and mission-critical knowledge assets in the world-class educational institutions.
