ORGANIZATIONAL UPDATES


Major number of changes to the organization since April 2009

We had announced that: Communications and Library Services Division are now

part of Corporate Services Research Data Centres are now Microdata Access

Division Heather Dryburgh is appointed Manager of the Microdata

Access Division as October 1st 2009




Wayne Smith was our Assistant Chief Statistician until Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Janice Vezina was then our new Assistant Chief Statistician and DLI, as part Communications and Library Services Division was then reporting to Corporate Services Field

Janice left after about a month and Wayne took over the two Fields until March 2010

Michel Cloutier is now the ACS for Corporate Services Field as of March 2010




Jonathan Massey-Smith left in January 2009 and was replaced by Lynn Bar-Telford

Lynn is now the Director-General of the Communications and Information Branch




Eric St. John is now special advisor until fall 2010 when he retires

Claude Graziadei is now the Director of Communications and Library Services Division




Bernie Gloyn, Assistant-Director of Communications and Library Services Division

Still looking after the Library Services




Jennifer Pagnotta left at end of July 2009

Thank you Jennifer for all your efforts and work to make this a success




Marie-Claire Lauzon came be back in August 2009 Picked up after Jennifer as if she had never left Thanks again to both Jennifer and Marie-Claire




Renee Rocan looks after all the travel forms, mail outs and other administrative tasks

Will haunt you for your authorization forms




Jackie Godfrey takes care of :• the FTP site• the Web site• the search tool• registration on listserv• passwords• all of us

Linda Harding-Devries works on DDI Makes files accessible through Nesstar Coordinates priorities with other people tagging

Eve Boyle completed her assignment with the DLI Section ended in May 2009

Gaëtan Drolet worked on the Survey of DLI contacts and designates

Regional Profiles based on Survey Report for use in QPR at StatCan Taking his second retirement

Since Fall 2009, rumors of DLI joining Microdata Access Division

December 2009, DLI Section moved to Jean Talon Bldg because of repairs in Library

February 2009, DLI Section moved to Main Bldg, because of possibility of joining Microdata Access Division

April 1st 2010: Official announcement that DLI would be part of

Microdata Access Division Anil Arora – ACS - Social, Health and Labour

Statistics Field has left Statistics Canada Rosemary Bender – DG – Census Subject Matter,

Social & Demographic Statistics Branch and acting ACS replacing Anil until end of April 2010

Since February 2010, we were advised that rules concerning all travel, contracts had to be followed.• Travel authorization forms to be signed and approved

before travel in order to be covered by insurance• Hotels that are listed in the green pages – where we

don’t have to provide justification in terms of costs

Apologize to the participants at the Training the Trainers Session because of this delay to be reimbursed


FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS


New institutions joined the DLI in the past year:• Algoma University• Georgian College• Northern Alberta Institute of Technology

Now have 78 members Visited Humber College and Georgian College Met with the Fédération des CÉGEP du Québec Visited Laurentian University and joined by:

• Algoma University• Nipissing University• Lakehead University through Internet conference

Visited Collège Boréal and Cambrian College to invite them to join


DLI MEMBERSHIP


Suzanne Drapeau from Nova Scotia College Jennifer Adams has stepped down and there are discussion for her

replacement Richard Boily from UQAR Maryna Beaulieu from UM has stepped down and there are discussion

for her replacement Wendy Watkins from Carleton University Barbara Znamirowsky from Trent will be attending her last meeting and

be replaced by Nancy Lemay from University of Ottawa Margaret Haines, Director, Carleton University Library has joined EAC

in April 2009 Chuck Humphrey from University of Alberta Walter Piovesan from Simon Fraser. His term is coming up and we will

be looking for a replacement We also have to look at representation from Statistics Canada with the

changes in organizational structures

Jennifer Adams has stepped down from the Education Committee Siobhan Hanratty and Ann Smith are now the Atlantic Regional

Training Coordinator Richard Boily is organizing his last DLI training as Quebec

Regional Training Coordinator A replacement will be taking over for the next one with Maryna

Beaulieu as Quebec Regional Training Coordinator Nicole Doyle has just resigned as Regional Training coordinator Sandra Keys and Wendy Watkins have been organizing this one Need to confirm the next Ontario Regional Training Coordinator

who will work with Sandra Keys Jean Blackburn and Gail Curry are still Regional Training

Coordinators for the West Wendy has accepted to take over the chairing of the Education

Committee to relieve Chuck until another chair of the Education Committee is named

challenges• Looked at the environment and impacts of changes• Looked at the assets and gaps in terms of training

within the DLI• Looked at the future taking in consideration the above

mentioned aspects

Listserv Remains our first priority Even with the transition, I think that the service

standards were maintained Thanks to Marie-Claire and Jennifer Pagnotta for

setting these standards and maintaining them even through transitions

Annual Report 09/10 Will be prepared for end of August 2010 Still putting emphasis on the training and support

FTP access structure for Census and Geography Some changes were done to the FTP site according to

comments and suggestions We are always open to other suggestions

Data Documentation Initiative We are still tagging files Coordinate efforts with other partners Many interactions with Federal Departments Renewal of NESSTAR as well as the fact that NESSTAR is not

CLF2.0 compliant


PRESENT PRIORITIES


Investigate the new training initiative and technologies – video conferencing / e-conferencing / e-presence

One experience with video conference at Laurentian University

Carleton University will host the e-conference and we should go forward before the summer 2010

Integrated Metadata Base (IMDB) All documentation from DLI collection has been

transferred to the IMDB Links the information on the survey to the

documentation and vice versa Makes our new interface work better Standard Division is bridging IMDB and DDI IMDB and DDI 3 are very similar and easy to bridge


PRESENT PRIORITIES


Other initiatives:• Restructuring of households surveys – streamline the

process and standardize outputs• Open PUMF to other market sectors outside of the DLI

has been put on hold for now• Keep getting new data as part of the DLI collection

Overall:• It has been a year of movements and changes• We have entered a period of transition
