The United Arab Emirates has arguably become one of the biggest players in global aviation in recent years. With the four main airlines of Emirates, Etihad, Air Arabia and Flydubai dominating the Arabian skies, their combined destination network covers most areas of the world and continues to aggressively expand.

For this report, Anjni Lala and Nicholas Painter-Bosworth – cabin interiors specialists at Flightglobal – delve into the four UAE airlines’ seating, IFE and connectivity offerings to provide a glimpse at the volume of data Flightglobal holds. Air Arabia offers only an economy class service, in contrast to its low-cost competitor, Flydubai. It has 37 Airbus A320-200s in its fleet with another 11 currently on order.

The majority of its fleet is fitted with B/E Aerospace Pinnacle seats – a lightweight option for all mission types. The remainder are a mix of Geven’s Slim Premium and the predecessor to B/E Aerospace’s Pinnacle, the Spectrum.

Overhead in-flight entertainment is available across the fleet with either the Panasonic Avionics MPES or Rockwell Collins dPAVES systems.

Across most of its fleet, Flydubai offers a service with a business-class cabin and in-seat in-flight entertainment. Its fleet comprises 45 Boeing 787-800s and it has a mix of another 91 737-800s and 737-8s on order.

Seat fit is standard across all of its aircraft, Geven’s Comoda in business and Recaro’s BL3510 in economy. In 2010, Flydubai was the launch customer for the Boeing Sky Interior.

For the 38 aircraft with IFE, this is provided by the Fiber To The Screen system from Lumexis and offers 12.1in screens to business-class passengers and 9.8in screens to those in economy.
