Reverse TransferHow NSC Became Involved

• NSC invited to participate in a 2013 AACRAO meeting

• Proposal developed by AAU Registrars subcommittee

• NSC developed a response

- Modeled on enrollment reporting process

- Three phases

- Raising funds for first phase

- Once developed, colleges will be able to use service for

free

SPEEDE Transition

• Transitioned from the University of Texas at Austin October 12, 2013

• As part of the transition

– A new website (SPEEDEServer.org) was created

– Established SPEEDE-support@studentclearinghouse.org for support

– Implemented SPEEDE on a server with capacity to support future growth

– Enhanced security by encrypting data at rest and during transport

• Collaborated with ApplyTexas to eliminate passing credit card data from that application through SPEEDE

• Convened a SPEEDE Advisory Committee

Operating Principles for SPEEDE

• Innovation and enhancements will be driven by the education community through advocacy groups such as AACRAO and the AACRAO SPEEDE Committee

• Ensure interoperability within the data exchange environment

• NSC commits to participating in the free and open exchange of education documents and data among network service providers

• The service will continue to be provided at no cost

• The platform will be open for all to use

• SPEEDE will adhere to standards that have been set by ANSI, PESC, etc. and will conform to new standards as they emerge

International Pilot

• Objective is to validate authenticity and electronic exchange of undergraduate documents for Chinese applicants to US graduate schools

• Partnering with two organizations associated with Chinese Ministry of Education

• Chinese Higher Education Student Information and Career Center (CHESICC)

• China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC)

• University of Texas at Austin

• Pilot scope

• Graduate school applicant orders documents through CHESICC and CDGDC

• CHESICC/CDGDC prepares documents (graduate certificate, enrollment certificate, test

scores) and validates transcript with Chinese undergraduate institution

• Documents delivered through the Clearinghouse Electronic Transcript Exchange

• Collaborate on standard data format, data element definitions, etc. for EDI and XML
