The Thrive to Survive

Once labeled as “the

dying industry,” Journalist

and Media outlets are

implementing new ideas

to continue to thrive.

Journalist all around the

world are partnering with

the government in order

to apply new digital tools

and data analysis to

reinvent the industry of

story-telling.

What is the motivation behind data driven

Journalism?

The central aim of this

new form of Journalism is

to report Breaking News

in a new way.

With social media and

advertising on the rise,

in-depth data analysis is

a new concept that other

media outlets will not be

able to compete with.

The Downfall of Data

Data driven Journalism

can be a wonderful thing

but it is not always easy

to implement.

For an example,

government agencies

and corporations have to

be persuaded to share

certain data and the

audience has to demand

certain qualities.

The Future

The future for Data

Driven Journalism is still

hard to see through.

Hopefully this new way of

story-telling will captivate

audiences, social media

outlets, and advertising

markets needed to

sustain.

–Jeanne Bourgault

“Data-driven journalism is opening windows

onto previously dark corners and giving

people the information they need to

understand and take action on the issues they

care about.”
