This guide has been specifically designed to explain the set up procedure of the ECCN01-CT0

controller with ebm-papst EC fans in data centre applications.

1. Terminals Information

2. Addressing Fans

The ECCN01-CT0 controller will not automatically assign addresses to the fans that are required on its

network. Therefore, before the set up of the ECCN01-CT0 controller, the addresses of all ebm-papst

fans connected to the controller have to be pre-programmed via EC-Control. Multiple fans assigned to

the same address must be avoided. Failure to do this will result to the ECCN01-CT0 controller not

working as desired. ebm-papst recommends the first fan to be programmed to address 2 and the

following fans thereafter to be programmed at “n+1”. This is to avoid any confusion when a new fan unit

is to be added to the existing network. Fans by ebm-papst are by factory default addressed 1.

Fans added to an already active ECCN01-CT0 controller will not be automatically assigned addresses

and added on its network. The set up of the ECCN01-CT0 controller will need to be processed again

(i.e. rebooting the controller is required) to add new fans on the controller network.

3. Display Information

The interface of the ECCN01-CT0 controller main page is illustrated in Figure 2.

3.1. Fan Status

The FAN STATUS tab outlines the current status of the fans connected to the ebm-papst ECCN01-CT0

controller. The information found in the FAN STATUS tab selection is divided in three columns in the

interface display as shown in Figure 3.

3.1.1 Fan Enabling

To activate a fan press and navigate to the current status of the fan, which will be OFF. Press OK to

select it then press to toggle the fan ON. Pressing OK after toggling ON will select this status.

Toggling and selecting ON in the right hand area of status will change the left hand area to read ‘FAN

OK' which indicates that the fan is connected and working.

To navigate to fans addresses greater than 6 (i.e. marked as FAN7 and above),press and navigate to

. Press OK to continue to the other sets of fans.

Ensure the FAN OK fan status applies for all addressed fans.

Fan Status What it means

N/A Not connected; the fan is not connected to the ECCN01-CT0 controller.

FAN OK Connected; the fan is connected to the ECCN01-CT0 controller and is running at the observed RPM.

D/C Disconnected; a previously addressed fan has been disconnected from the ECCN01-CT0 controller.

WARNING

The WARNING status can pertain to any of the following occurrences:

Output stage temperature high Motor temperature high Electronics interior temperature high Cable break at set value analogue input

ERROR

The ERROR status can pertain to any of the following occurrences:

DC –link under voltage Locked motor Hall sensor error Fan bad error Power modulation overheated Mains under voltage

3.2. Sensor Status

The interface in Figure 4 can be observed by choosing the SENSOR STATUS tab.

SENSOR1 and SENSOR2 denote the two sensors used in conjunction with the ECCN01-CT0

controller. The status of the sensors can be either of the following:

Sensor status What it means

OK The sensor is working and operational.

ERROR The sensor is not working.

The MIN PRESSURE is the minimum operational pressure set for the two working sensors.

4. Settings

The process of setting up the ECCN01-CT0 controller with addressed fans and sensors will need to be

done as follows to ensure the constant pressure application of the system:

4.1. Set Point Configuration

The interface in Figure 5 can be observed by choosing the SETTINGS tab.

The set point pressure can be changed by pressing to scroll through the desired pressure value.

Press OK once the desired pressure value has been entered.

NOTE:

It is important to follow the process outlined above in consecutive order prior to the auto tuning

process.

4.2. PI Tuning

Once the set point has been configured to the required pressure level, the tuning process will need to

be specified.

4.2.1. Auto Tune Configuration

The interface in Figure 7 can be observed by pressing when AUTO TUNE is switched to ON:

NOTE:

The tuning process can be done by setting ON either AUTO TUNE or MANUAL TUNE. The

tuning process will not initiate if both tuning options are switched to ON.

To start auto tune for PI values, press until the ON option is highlighted on the AUTO TUNE function.

The auto tune process may take up to 10 minutes, and only needs to be done once when the ECCN01-CT0 controller boots up with all connections set up. If a re-auto tuning is needed, navigate to the RESET button and set it to ON then repeat the auto tuning process.

4.2.2. Reset

Press to change the RESET function from OFF to ON. The RESET function allows the PI tuning process to restart when it is switched to ON.

4.2.3. Status

The PI tuning process status will be shown in the STATUS bar, which can be any of the following:

4.2.4. Manual Tuning Configuration

Select the MANUAL TUNE option to manually set up both the P and I values separately. Press to

navigate between the P and I value entry boxes. Press OK to select either of the options and press to

enter the desired value for either the P or I value. Once the desired value has been entered, press OK.

PI Tuning Status What it means

NOT TUNED

The system has not gone through the tuning process. Constant pressure maintenance within the operation space of the sensor and fans will not be achieved.

TUNING The tuning is currently in process.

DONE The tuning process is completed. PI value has been calculated for auto PI control.
