Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Wellbeing: A focus on children and youth. In 2008, the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Survey (NATSISS) collected information about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples aged 15 years and over; for the first time it also collected information about children aged 0–14 years. Children aged 0–14 years, and youth aged 15–24 years, make up over half of the total Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population. Therefore, the issues that affect them have a significant effect on the wellbeing of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities as a whole.

This publication uses the new data collected in the 2008 NATSISS that primarily focuses on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and youth. The articles in the publication include:

A Population Overview Culture, Heritage and Leisure Family and Community Health Education, Learning and Skills Paid Work Income and Economic Resources Housing and Community Facilities Law and Justice .

Economic and Demographic Indicators Series for Australia.

The National Economic Indicators Series is a set of key economic measures for every Local Government Area (LGA) in Australia. The series is drawn from National Economics (NIEIR) modelling and other relevant data sources

The indicators provide a snapshot of each local economy at a point in time, showing how it contributes to the broader State economy and how it is performing in relation to other areas.

The National Demographic Indicators Series is a set of key social and demographic measures for every Local Government Area (LGA) in Australia. The series is drawn predominantly from the latest 2011 Census data, and Estimated Resident Population which is updated annually.

The indicators provide a snapshot of each LGA at the 2011 Census and how it compares to other LGAs. The measures have been selected to cover a broad range of socio-demographics and there is no assumption that a high or low score is “better” or “worse” on any given measure.
