The DeltaV function blocks werebuilt with fieldbus in mind. Thefunction blocks are exactlyimplemented per the IEC 61158specification. The parameters on thefunction block are those defined bythe Fieldbus Foundation and areconsistent throughout. Unlikeexisting DCSs or PLCs wherecomplicated mapping for fieldfunction blocks to legacy datastructures are required, the DeltaVfunction blocks are exactly the sameas field device function blocks. Sothe system is easy to engineer andeasy to maintain.
Peer-to-peer control among fielddevices broadly distributes controland provides a higher degree ofsingle-loop integrity.
