Thanks to the vision of the City of Sydney, our city now has a remarkable new theatre, the Eternity Playhouse. They have delivered a magnificent heritage restoration of an iconic building and we are humbled and eternally grateful for the extraordinary opportunity that it affords our company and Australian theatre artists.

At the very heart of Darlinghurst Theatre Company’s work is a firm belief that a theatre company should promote a democracy of ideas. We want our audiences to experience the power and possibilities of live theatre and for our productions to inspire reflection and dialogue about the world in which we live. Every show in 2014 brings together a new team of outstanding artists, who will present their unique artistic vision and perspectives on theatre and life.

Our inaugural season at the Eternity Playhouse pays homage to independent artists and to theatre itself. From the grand to the intimate, from the tragic to thewhimsical and from the small to the infinite, it’s all inour 2014 season.

Finally, Darlinghurst Theatre Company will actually be in Darlinghurst! I’d like to sincerely thank local and renowned artist Kevin Connor for the use of his beautiful drawing of Darlinghurst that features on our brochure cover.

The Eternity Playhouse is a 126 year old heritage listed building, beautifully restored and renovated to create a state-of-the-art theatre and home for Darlinghurst Theatre Company.

The former Baptist Tabernacle was named in honour of local Sydney identity, Arthur Stace, who became known as ‘Mr Eternity’. It was in this very church that Stace heard the sermon that inspired him to anonymously chalk the word ‘Eternity’ on the city’s footpaths for over 30 years. Darlinghurst Theatre Company has worked closely with the City of Sydney and architects Tonkin Zulaikha Greer to create a grand and technically advanced theatre that is also welcoming, intimate and accessible. With its stunning architecture and iconic place in Sydney’s history, the Eternity Playhouse will be a very special place to see live theatre. For more about the Eternity Playhouse, including detailedvisitor information, visit darlinghursttheatre.com.

JPW King is a quack psychiatristwith an insatiable taste for vodka. The recurring question is how to get through each day. Then a mysterious Irishman walks into his office wanting to sing like the great Italian tenor, Beniamino Gigli...

Widely considered to be Murphy’s masterpiece, The Gigli Concert is afiercely satirical and beautifullycrafted play about the enduranceof the human spirit and our abilityto achieve the impossible.

“The first generation makes it, the second generation builds it, the third f**ks it up.”When Australia’s two largest media barons hand over power to their feckless sons, fortunes are risked, secrets exposed and lives are ruined.

A smash hit in 2005 and 2006, this wickedly subversive comedy takes a scathing and satirical look at the ruthless world of Australia’s empire builders. This new version, created especially for the Eternity Playhouse stage, promises to be every bitas scandalous and uproariously funny.

Every Second is the story of two thirty-something couples hell bent onhaving a child. They’ve given up sushi and champagne, as well as theirsanity. But how much more are they willing to sacrifice?

Full of wry observations and bitter truths, Every Second takes a comediclook at a very modern dilemma. Don’t miss this brand new Australian play from one of the country’s most daring and witty playwrights.

Things are looking up for recovering alcoholic and ex con Jackie and hisgirlfriend Veronica, until Jackie spots another man’s hat in their apartment…

Fast-paced and uproarious, The Motherf**ker with the Hat is a gleefullyfoul-mouthed look at modern love and other addictions. Following rave reviews and a sold-out season in 2013, it makes a welcome return to the Sydney stage.

Felicity has it all; a successfulSydney restaurant, a home withwater views and a handsomejet setting husband. But with thesudden visit by an old flame, infidelity could be on the cards. Felicity’s plans for a candle-litreunion go awry when a string of unexpected visitors drop by. Daylight Saving is a deliciouslyfast-paced comedy about love, loneliness, food and friendshipby one of Australia’s most lovedplaywrights.

Joe Keller is a proud family man, successful business owner and local hero. Yet he is harbouring a deadly secret, which threatens to destroy everything. One of the most celebrated American plays of the 20th Century, All My Sonsis a provocative portrait of life in post-World War II America. Arthur Miller masterfully builds intrigue and suspensein this compelling drama about family ties, patriotic duty and personal greed.

Marvin has left his wife and son for his male lover. Meanwhile, Trina has shacked up with Marvin’s shrink. Amongst this there’s also a Bar Mitzvah to organise. Is it too much to ask for everyone to get along?

Falsettos is a Tony Award-winning musical aboutthe original modern family. Wickedly funny lyricsaccompany a live piano score in this quirky yettender tale about family, growing up and what itmeans to be a man.

One relationship. Infinite possibilities.

Roland meets Marianne at a barbeque. She’s a physicist, he’s a beekeeper. They are an unlikely match, but this is not your average boy-meets-girllove story.

Written by one of Britain’s most exciting young playwrights, Constellations is an explosive new play about love, fate and free will.
