DF: When did you know you wanted to be a fash- ion designer? CR: I started sewing when I was 7! DF: How is fashion today different from when you began? CR: There are no rules in fashion anymore. There is an exuberance in personal style, wear what makes you happy not what someone says is a trend. DF: Describe the Cynthia Rowley woman. What does she do? What does she care about? CR: She is effortless, dar- ing and unique. Lives for life, love and embraces the idea of endless summer. She cares about a variety of causes and initiatives because she is soulful, passionate. I like to think my customer is a little bit like me! DF: Your spring collection is entitled “Endless Sum- mer.” Tell us what inspired this season’s pieces. CR: The collection that is in the store now is a mix of sporty and feminine. Casual embroidered sweatshirts that work as well with a luxe skirt or your favorite pair of jeans. We keep that party going into our Spring collec- tion, adding even more swim and surf inspired looks. And you can always count on a pretty dress. DF: What is the one piece from your collection that Cynthia Rowley understands the Palm Beach lifestyle. In the morning, she might go paddle boarding on the lake in a bright- ly-colored wetsuit. Then, cof- fee in an embroidered sweat- shirt and brocade mini skirt. Lunch follows in suede pants and a poplin sleeve sweater. Pool-time with the children means a metallic two-piece with an eyelet tunic dress. By 6 o’clock, another change into a silk gown, and finally, bed-time at ten, comfortable in a graffiti tee and printed leggings. Adven- ture exudes from every Cynthia Rowley design, and that adven- turous female spirit is integral to Palm Beach style. Last week I hosted the open- ing party for Cynthia Row- ley’s first Palm Beach boutique at The Royal Poinciana Plaza. The cocktail party brought out fashionistas to shop the “End- less Summer” collection. Par- ty-goers sipped champagne as they enjoyed the sounds of D J Aulden Brown. A beauty bar from EIR NYC also dazzled. It was a warm welcome to a most creative fashion force, and a por- tion of the proceeds benefited the Ocean Conservancy, a char- ity focused on protecting the oceans and maritime wildlife. When fashion and philanthropy intersect, Palm Beach will always show its support. PHOTOS BY NICK MELE As a passport-holder of both Palm Beach and Manhattan, I am excited by any opportunity to connect the two islands. I met designer Cynthia Rowley several years ago at New York Fashion Week, and I marveled at her creative command of print, pattern, and texture. She knows how to translate aesthetic into brand extension:, accessories, home décor and active wear, to name just a few. Beyond fashion, Cynthia works also with contemporary artists. She founded an online store to showcase and sell fine art prints.
