Compare and contrast

Philip and Steven are both news reporters although both their style and subjects are what set them apart, Philip tends to cover a range of topics from youtube drama and news to real world news, while Steven sticks to only reporting about real world news. Their styles and freedoms of presenting their shows are a few good ways that they can be set apart from each other.

Philip uses youtube as his platform, this means that he has a lot more freedom for his use of language than steven does. Philip has the freedom to swear because youtube isn’t as up tight about it as public television is. Philip tends to cover topics that happen online rather than cover real life, this means that his target audience tends to be young people due to older people not using the internet as much as young people. Philip hosts a few different shows such as The Philip Defranco Show and His vlogs where he films his everyday life.

Philip is popular because he doesn’t hold back when he is talking about a subject he will freely talk about his opinions on the subject and how he thinks it could be dealt with. He has a past with presenting shows such as SourceFed, this gave him a lot of experience in how to present a show properly.

Stephen has a live audience in a studio, this allows him to interact with his audience a lot easier than Philip can, this is because Philip has to wait for his audience to comment on his videos, while Stephen has his audience right in front of him so he can get their thoughts on the subjects he is discussing. Stephen tends to cover real life topics rather online drama and news, this makes his target audience become older people due to young people getting their news online rather than from analog sources.

Stephen has hosted two different shows that are of note, the first of these is The Colbert Report, this was his main show that he presented on for nine

years up until 2014 in which the show was discontinued. The second show is The Late Show with Stephen Colbert which is his current show that he presents.

ProfessionalismThere is a major difference in the professionalism between Stephen and Philip, Stephen has to be quite professional when it comes to his show, he needs to think about political correctness and what his sponsors will think of what he says. This makes it difficult for him because he has to question everything he says to ensure that he isn’t going to unintentionally offend someone. Philip on the other hand has a lot more freedom to talk the way he likes, yes he does have sponsors but he tends to take his liberty to speak about the subjects that he wants to and talk the way he wants. Philip it a lot more laid back with his professionalism when compared to stephen, though they are presenting to two very different audiences and therefore have two very different styles of talking that resonates with their audience.

Equipment There is a huge difference between the equipment that philip and stephen use for their shows. Stephen films his shows within a professional television studio, this means that he has access to expensive and powerful video equipment to produce his shows. Stephen uses multiple cameras for his shows this gives him many different angles to pick from when he is live, although this causes a problem as stephen has to keep an eye on which camera is active in order to ensure he is presenting to the correct camera.

Philip on the other hand uses a single DSLR to film his show, this means that he only ever has to worry about the one camera when he is filming. He uses a lapel microphone to record his voice, this is a simple and effective way for him to record his voice. Philip has a lower cost setup than Stephen but he is still able to hold up to the same quality content.

Overall there are a lot of differences between both presenters but they also have a lot of similarities that make them very alike in their styles. It would be very interesting to see what would happen if you got both presenters and got them to swap shows for a week, it would be interesting to see what they can create while they are presenting to an entirely new audience.
