Rationale 6th Principle concerning “Cooperation
among Cooperatives”.
The full statement reads: "Cooperatives serve their members most effectively and strengthen the cooperative movement by working together through local, national, regional, and international structures."Co-ops joining together to get better deals, eliminate duplicate costs, expand services to members and strengthen the movement as a whole
7th Principle observed by cooperatives worldwide is the “Concern for the Community” whereby cooperatives work for the sustainable development of their communities
A cooperative should be a responsible member of the community and do all it can to meet the needs of those who live in its service area
“ sense of community responsibility” take responsibility for their own community, and work together to improve and develop the community, both locally and internationally.

Ernest Coulter founded the organized Big Brothers movement by recruiting 39 volunteers, who each agreed to befriend one boy

Cooperation is about unity, joining forces, willing to share experience and learnings
Big brother, small brother” cooperation among cooperatives will further the growth of the cooperative sector. This means more intensive partnership, collaboration, creative cooperation and advocacy among Federation and union, NOT to compete but strengthen the operations of the primary coops.
The BB/SB Program helps match caring mentors (big brothers) with small brother cooperative who is willing to undergo on-the job-training to learn skills they need to manage their cooperatives and observe and replicate practices of big brothers.
Big brother can offer keen advices
and insights on cost reduction,
such as Expense Reduction
Analysts, with their guidance, the
small cooperatives can
substantially reduce cost in
operation (i.e. insurance and office
supplies) without sacrificing better
delivery of service.
In the BB/SB Program, the big brother partners will help in establishing the organizational and operational systems in the small cooperatives
Big brother cooperative includes in their social responsibility program the promotion of bayanihan spirit by sharing their best practices, helping small cooperatives learn their culture of business acumen and management towards growth and productivity of the small brother cooperatives
The big brother/small brother program is anchored on the values of “malasakit”.
