In the winter it is very cold and it stays dark all day and all night. There is no sunlight to warm up the land.

In the summer, the sun stays up for the whole day. But it is still very chilly!

The Inuit wear nannuk polar bear skin trousers. They also wear qulittaq, which is a winter jacket made of caribou skin. For shoes, the Inuit wear kamik, a special kind of boot. The soles are made of bearded sealskin and the boots have an inner sock of soft sheepskin.

Most of the Inuit’s food is what they hunt, gather, and fish. They are nomadic, which means that they move to find food.

Their main foods are caribou, walrus, fish, whale skin, and seal liver. There is a lot of protein and fat in their diet and the whale skin and seal liver has as much vitamin C as oranges.

During the short summer months, the Inuit eat berries and flowers. They do not plant crops since it is too cold to farm in the Arctic.
