DAMAGE TO ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS

Proper handling procedures must be observed during the removal, installation or otherhandling of internal circuit boards or devices.

Failure to properly handle the instrument can damage electronic components that aresusceptible to static electricity.

Handling Procedure:

1. Power to the unit must be removed.

2. Personnel must be grounded, via a wrist strap or other safe, suitable means before any printedcircuit card or other internal device is installed, removed or adjusted.

3. Printed circuit cards must be transported in a conductive bag or other conductive container.Boards must not be removed from protective enclosure until immediately before installation.Removed boards must immediately be placed in a protective container for transport, storageor return to the factory.

DAMAGE TO ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS

This instrument is not unique in its content of ESD (electrostatic discharge) sensitivecomponents. Most modern electronic designs contain components that utilize metal oxidetechnology (NMOS, CMOS, etc.).

Failure to properly handle the instrument can damage or destroy electronic components thatare susceptible to even small amounts of static electricity. The components will exhibit earlyfailure even though they appear to function properly.

WARRANTY

1. LIMITED WARRANTY: Subject to the limitations contained in Section 2 herein, Daniel Measurement & Control,

Inc. (“Daniel”) warrants that the licensed firmware embodied in the Goods will execute the programming instructions

provided by Daniel, and that the Goods manufactured by Daniel will be free from defects in materials or workmanship

under normal use and care and Services will be performed by trained personnel using proper equipment and

instrumentation for the particular Service provided. The foregoing warranties will apply until the expiration of the

applicable warranty period. Goods are warranted for twelve (12) months from the date of initial installation or eighteen

(18) months from the date of shipment by Daniel, whichever period expires first. Consumables and Services are

warranted for a period of 90 days from the date of shipment or completion of the Services. Products purchased by Daniel

from a third party for resale to Buyer (“Resale Products”) shall carry only the warranty extended by the original

manufacturer. Buyer agrees that Daniel has no liability for Resale Products beyond making a reasonable commercial

effort to arrange for procurement and shipping of the Resale Products. If Buyer discovers any warranty defects and

notifies Daniel thereof in writing during the applicable warranty period, Daniel shall, at its option, correct any errors that

are found by Daniel in the firmware or Services or repair or replace F.O.B. point of manufacture that portion of the

Goods or firmware found by Daniel to be defective, or refund the purchase price of the defective portion of the

Goods/Services. All replacements or repairs necessitated by inadequate maintenance, normal wear and usage, unsuitable

power sources or environmental conditions, accident, misuse, improper installation, modification, repair, use of

unauthorized replacement parts, storage or handling, or any other cause not the fault of Daniel are not covered by this

limited warranty, and shall be at Buyer’s expense. Daniel shall not be obligated to pay any costs or charges incurred by

Buyer or any other party except as may be agreed upon in writing in advance by Daniel. All costs of dismantling,

reinstallation and freight and the time and expenses of Daniel’s personnel and representatives for site travel and diagnosis

under this warranty clause shall be borne by Buyer unless accepted in writing by Daniel. Goods repaired and parts

replaced by Daniel during the warranty period shall be in warranty for the remainder of the original warranty period or

ninety (90) days, whichever is longer. This limited warranty is the only warranty made by Daniel and can be amended

only in a writing signed by Daniel. THE WARRANTIES AND REMEDIES SET FORTH ABOVE ARE EXCLUSIVE.

THERE ARE NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS TO

MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR ANY OTHER MATTER WITH RESPECT

TO ANY OF THE GOODS OR SERVICES. Buyer acknowledges and agrees that corrosion or erosion of materials

is not covered by this warranty.

2. LIMITATION OF REMEDY AND LIABILITY: DANIEL SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR DAMAGES

CAUSED BY DELAY IN PERFORMANCE. THE REMEDIES OF BUYER SET FORTH IN THIS AGREEMENT

ARE EXCLUSIVE. IN NO EVENT, REGARDLESS OF THE FORM OF THE CLAIM OR CAUSE OF ACTION

(WHETHER BASED IN CONTRACT, INFRINGEMENT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, OTHER TORT OR

Welcome to the Daniel Ultrasonic Mark III Upgrade Kit Instructions Manual.

This manual has been designed to provide you with a step-by-step set of instructions for upgradinga Daniel Ultrasonic meter with Mark II electronics to Mark III electronics.

2. Transducer Cord Sets

If the meter was manufactured prior to October 2002 it will have black transducer cables with a bluestripe that attach to the meter (mount cover) with a large aluminum holder cover as shown in Figure2-1, above. Metal glands on the old Mark II need to be moved to the Mark III; or new glands shouldbe purchased if the Mark II has plastic glands.

Meters manufactured after October 2002 will have blue transducer cables, and a nut that threadsdirectly into the back of the transducer holder as shown in Figure 2-2, above. New cables can useplastic glands that come with the Mark III.

Daniel CUI is required to communicate with the meter electronics, access information and collectthe configuration in the Mark II electronics and then convert and download the configuration intothe new Mark III electronics. 3.0 BEFORE REMOVING THE MARK II ELECTRONICS

1. Before removing power from the Mark II to begin the upgrade, use the Daniel CUI softwareto connect to the meter.

2. Use the Edit/Compare Configuration screen in Daniel CUI to read the configuration fromthe meter and save it to a file on your PC. An example for a file name might be "MeterName, MkII Final Config, 3-4-2005 10-15-02 AM.cfg". Daniel CUI will be used later in thisprocedure to convert the configuration and download it to the Mark III electronics.

LOSS OF SET-UP DATA

The current Mark II configuration file must be saved before beginning the Mark IIIelectronics upgrade.

Failure to save the current configuration file can result in the loss of important set-up data.

Steps 3 through 11 provide more detailed instructions on obtaining the required information withrespect to the communications set-up of the Mark II electronics, however, if these settings are alreadyknown, these steps can be skipped. Step 8 is for Frequency and Diagnostic outputs. For reference,the known values should be entered in the Summary Table of Communication/Output Settings inAppendix B. This information will be required in the setup of the Mark III electronics. For anysetting which is not known, the applicable step(s) for obtaining that information can be used.

3. While connected to the meter via Daniel CUI, use the File>Meter Directory menu path, thenselect the meter name you want to upgrade.a) Click the Direct button on the lower left corner of the Meter Directory dialog box.b) The Direct Connection Properties For… dialog appears.c) Obtain the Modbus ID (same as Comms Address). Both ports share the same address

in the Mark II. Figure 3-1.

Based on the information contained in the connection properties window, enter the valuesfor the following parameters: (Note: These values can also be entered in theCommunication/Output Summary Table in Appendix B.)

Port A and B: Modbus ID = ______________ (enter Comms Address)

4. Exit the Daniel CUI and disconnect your PC from the Mark II electronics. The remaininginformation required before doing the upgrade, is based on the wiring terminations and thesettings of various switches and jumpers on the boards that comprise the Mark II electronics.

5. Power down the electronics.

EQUIPMENT DAMAGE

Remove power from the Mark II electronics.

Failure to remove power from the Mark II electronics may result in damage to the equipment.

6. Remove the end caps from the upper electronicshousing of the meter to access the two sets ofcircuit boards. See Figure 3-3 for board layout ofthe stacks.

7. The Mark II electronic’s physical configuration regarding the serial communications,frequency outputs and status outputs is required. This information is obtained by checkingthe switch and jumper settings on the boards contained in the Mark II electronics.

The table below provides the various wiring terminations, switch settings and jumperpositions which dictate the signal type (RS-232 or RS-485) for each port. The wiringterminations, and switch (S1) are located on the Field Connection board (Figure 3-4) and thejumpers (JP1 – JP4) are located on the PS (Power Supply) board (Figures 3-5 and 3-6). Asshown in Figure 3-3, these two boards are located on the outer ends of the electronics andare clearly viewable when the end caps on the housing have been removed. 9. To obtain the remaining physical configuration of the electronics, remove the electronicassembly comprised of DFI board, Power Supply and CPU board.

To remove the electronics assembly:a) Remove the cable connector screws on the Power Supply and disconnect the cables.b) Loosen the 4 captive screws that hold the electronics stack in the housing.c) Move the field connection boards cables to the right. Then grasp two of the captive

screws and pull the card stack from the housing.

10. The retaining clips on the screws are located under the lowest board in the stack. Using asmall screwdriver pry the retainer rings from the screws. With the rings removed, the screwscan be pulled through the stack, and the stack can be disassembled.

11. On the DFI (Digital Frequency Interface) board, (middle board in the stack) there are twoswitch banks, S1 and S2, located near the center of the board, as shown in Figure 3-8. Theseswitches are used to set the Modbus address, protocol and baud rates.

Although the Modbus ID may already have been determined from information based on the “CommsAddress” accessed via Daniel CUI (via the Direct Connection Properties for …….. window), it isalso possible to get this information based on the positions of switches 1-5 on Switch bank S2.

4.0 REMOVING MARK II ELECTRONICS

1. Having obtained all the information related to the set-up of the Mark II configuration andcommunications, all the components related to the Mark II electronics can now be physicallyremoved. Unscrew all wiring from the Field Connection and PFC board termination strips.It may be helpful to label the wires to make it easier to connect the Mark III electronics.

2. Remove the conduit and wiring attached to all of the six conduit ports.

3. Remove any ground wire attached to the ground lugon the outside of the upper electronics housing. Atthis point there should be no wires connected to theupper electronics housing.

4. Use the 6mm Allen wrench (supplied with upgradekit) to remove the four bolts holding the baseenclosure cover to the base enclosure.

5. Remove the upper electronics housing from thebase enclosure. The preamp cable, which comesdown from the upper electronics to the preampmodule in the base enclosure, must be removedfrom the preamp module. Loosen the two screws onthe ends of the preamp cable connector, anddisconnect it from the preamp module. A cableclamp, which attaches the preamp cable to one ofthe preamp module mounting screws, may need tobe removed. Once removed, set the upperelectronics housing aside.

6. Remove all the screws that hold the transducer wires in the Phoenix connectors that attachthe transducers to the preamp module. Remove the screws from the ends of the twoconnectors. Disconnect the connectors and remove each of the transducer wires from theconnector.

7. Loosen the cable glands on the base enclosure and pull all of the transducer cables out of thebase enclosure.

8. Unscrew the remaining screws still holding the preamp module in the base enclosure andremove the preamp module. If necessary, use a flat-blade screwdriver to loosen thepreamplifier module and remove it from the base enclosure.

9. The four mounting bolts holding the enclosurecover to the meter body are sealed with a RTVsilicone adhesive/sealant. Remove the RTV with aflat-blade screwdriver or utility knife to expose themounting bolts. Running a utility knife around theperimeter of the recessed opening and the RTVeases the removal of the sealant. Use the 7/16"socket wrench to remove the four mounting bolts.

10. Remove the base enclosure from the meter body.

11. If RTV silicone adhesive/sealant was used to seal the base enclosure to the meter body,remove it from the meter body so the Mark III base enclosure will have a clean mountingsurface.

12. The Mark II electronics should be completely removed from the meter body.

5.0 INSTALLING THE MARK III ELECTRONICS

1. Remove the Mark III Upgrade components fromthe packaging. Use the 6mm Allen wrench toremove the two screws from the base enclosurecover.

2. Lift the upper electronics housing from the baseenclosure. The acquisition cable connector from theupper electronics is attached to the acquisitionmodule with two screws. Loosen the two screwsand disconnect the acquisition cable connectorfrom the acquisition module.

3. Unscrew the three mounting screws from the acquisition module in the base enclosure andremove the acquisition board.

4. Place an insulating gasket on the meter body wherethe electronics will be mounted.

5. Place the base enclosure on top of the meter bodyon top of the insulating gasket. Note that thetransducer port openings on the base enclosure arelabeled with transducer locations (i.e. A1, A2.. D1,D2). Orient the base so that the A1 transducer portis closest to the A1 transducer location on the meterbody. The meter body has the transducer locationlabels embossed in the body next to each transducerboss. The ports on the base enclosure must beoriented outward (towards the sides of the meterbody, perpendicular to meter axis). This will bedifferent from the Mark II base enclosureorientation on which the transducer ports were oriented towards the flanges, in line with themeter axis.

6. Use the four 1/4" bolts with stainless steel washersand nylon shoulder washers to secure the baseenclosure to the meter body. Use a nut driver totighten the bolts to a torque of 55 to 65 inch-lbs.

7. Fill up the wells with RTV adhesive/sealant aroundand over the four 1/4" bolts. This will ensure awater-tight seal. Any excess sealant can beremoved by using a scraper to leave the sealantflush with the top of the well. Excess sealant willadhere to the acquisition board when it is installed,and make future removal of the board difficult.

8. Insert the Mark III Acquisition board in the base enclosure and secure it with the threescrews. It can only be installed in one orientation.

9. If the transducer cables are black, then the metallic glands must be moved over from theMark II electronics. If Mark II has plastic glands, then you will need to purchase metalglands. If the meter is an explosion-proof Cenelec meter, the explosion-proof glands willhave to be moved over to the Mark III electronics.

10. Thread the transducer cables from the transducers through the cable gland on the appropriateport of the new base enclosure. Each transducer location on the meter body is marked(example: A1, A2). The A1 transducer cable must go through the A1 port on the baseenclosure. The same applies to all other transducer cables.

11. The cable entries on the Mark III base areperpendicular to the meter axis as opposed toparallel to the axis on the Mark II body. Theorientation of the wiring may need to be shortened.Cut the transducer cables to the correct length withallowance for the wiring terminations andconnector placement. Strip back about 1.5" of thecable outer sheath and 1/4" inch of insulation offthe white and black wires as shown below inFigure 5-7. When stripping back the outer sheath of the transducer cable, do not cut into theinsulation of the individual wires. The transducer cables have three wires each, that must beterminated on the applicable connector which plugs into the acquisition board. The whitewire goes to the + (positive) pin, the black wire goes to the - (negative) pin and the bare drainwire goes to the S pin. (Note: On some of the old black transducer cables, the positive wiremay be blue and the negative wire may be gray).

The relative position of the contacts is shown onthe acquisition board label adjacent to the Phoenixconnector plug-in. Use caution here as thesequence of the wires are opposite in the two sides(ie S - + and + - S). When the wires are beingterminated on the connector, ensure that thecontacts clamp on the bare wires and not on thewire insulation. Leave the connector plugged intothe Acquisition board while terminating theindividual wires. After terminating all the wires onthe applicable connector, replace the connectorscrews on either end of the connector. Repeat this procedure for the transducer cables on theother side of the meter.

12. Secure the transducer cables in such a fashion thatthey are neat, and do not have undo exposure topotential physical damage.

13. Once the transducers are wired correctly, install theMark III meter upper enclosure on the baseenclosure. Be sure to reconnect the acquisitioncable connector to the acquisition module andsecure the cable connector by tightening the twoscrews.

14. Ensure the O-ring on the base of the upper enclosure is properly seated, position the upperenclosure housing so that it is in the desired orientation for reattaching the electrical conduit.

15. Install the two screws with the 6mm Allen wrenchto secure the upper enclosure to the base enclosure.

16. Remove both end caps from the upper enclosure. Figure 5-12 shows the layout of the MarkIII electronics. As can be seen the number of boards has been reduced to two (CPU and FieldTermination boards with provision for an Option board) and access to those boards has beensimplified.

If the settings above are not consistent with those used in the Mark II electronics, or not thedesired ones if changes are being made, then the switch settings on the CPU board (S3, S4,S5, S6 and S7) and the Field Connection board (S1) may need to be changed forcommunication (RS-232/RS-485 parameters only), digital outputs, and frequency outputs.The Wiring Diagram card included next to the CPU board shows the correct switchpositions. Appendix A of this document contains additional details respecting the switchesand wiring related to the communications and discrete output signals. The Acquisition boardconnector (located on IS Interface board on back side of CPU board) does not need to bedisconnected from the CPU board to set the switches.

The Daniel CUI can not communicate with Mark III meters over a half duplex serialconnection. As a result, for Daniel CUI to communicate via a serial connection, that port onthe MARK III electronics must be set for RS232-Full Duplex, or RS485-Full Duplex (requires4 or 5 conductor cable).

19. In addition to the above, 2 of the switches on S2 (located on front of CPU board) will needto be checked to ensure they are set properly.

Switch position 2 enables or disables the DHCP server for Ethernet communication.

Switch position 4 enables or disables "write protection" of the meter configuration.

Both should be set to the closed position to enable Ethernet communication via the DHCPserver, and to allow configuration parameters to be written to the meter. Only enable theDHCP server if the meter is not connected to a network that may have a DHCP serveralready running. The DHCP server is designed for use when a PC connects directly to themeter and requires the meter to assign the PC an IP address.

20. Reinstall the CPU board in the upper enclosure andlock the locking mechanisms on the rails to keep itsecurely in place.

All of the terminations on theField Connection board are made with the Phoenixquick disconnect connectors. This makes it easierto terminate the wires prior to plugging them intothe board. Appendix A of this document alsoincludes wiring tables and illustrations for each ofthe connectors on the Field Connection board.Refer to field wiring Drawing DE-21056 inAppendix C.

1. Check all settings and wiring carefully.

2. Set up the Meter Directory, and start initial communication with the Mark III electronics.The basic instructions for setting up the directory and initializing communications arecontained in the following text. Refer to the Daniel Ultrasonic Gas Flowmeter Mark IIIElectronics Reference, Installation and Operations Manual, P/N 3-9000-743, Section 5.1 formore detailed instructions. Use Daniel CUI 3.1 or later to make a connection to the meter.

INITIAL COMMUNICATION CONNECTION USING ETHERNET

Ethernet Initial Connection Material ChecklistThe following materials and information are required:• Mark III Ethernet adapter cable (Daniel P/N 3-3400-079)• Personal computer (PC) configured as follows:

RS-232 Serial Initial Connection Steps1. Power up the Mark III meter and the PC.2. Plug the DB-9 end of the cable directly into the PC running Daniel CUI. The three

wires on the other end of the cable connect to J7 (FTB) for Port B. The Digital Outwire goes to J7-Pinl, the Digital In wire goes to J7-Pin2, and the COMMON wiregoes to J7-Pin3.

3. Start Daniel CUI on the PC and create a new meter directory record with thefollowing parameters:a) Enter a nameb) Select Meter Type as Mark IIIc) Check the Direct box and uncheck the Modem and Ethernet boxes.d) Set the Direct connection properties for Baud Rate of 19200 and Comms

Address (Modbus ID) of 32.

4. For direct communication with the Mark III meter, Port B must be set up for RS232-Full Duplex serial communication. If it is not set up that way, then see Appendix Ato set the appropriate switch on the CPU board and Field Connection board forRS232-Full Duplex communications on Port B.

5. Override the Mark III Serial Port B parameters to 19200 baud and Modbus ID 32 bysetting CPU Board switch S2-1 to the CLOSED position (down toward the board)(or toggle the switch S2-1 if already in the CLOSED position).Note that the Serial Port B remains in the override mode until either (1) the portconfiguration is changed (via software), (2) two minutes has elapsed (at whichtime the port reverts to its current configuration), or (3) CPU Board switch S2-1is changed back to the OPEN position.

6. Use the Meter>Connect menu path to click on the Direct connection for the meterrecord established above. Daniel CUI will now connect to the meter using the user-specified serial communication settings.

4. Click on the Open button. The Open Configuration File displays. Select the final Mark IIconfiguration file created in Step 2 of Section 3 of this document (i.e. "Meter Name, MkIIFinal Config, 3-4-2005 10-15-02 AM.cfg"). Click on the Open button. The file opens andyou are returned to the Edit Compare Configuration dialog.

a) Click on the Convert button (see Figure 6-1). Daniel CUI reads the Mark IIIconfiguration from the meter and modifies it with the Mark II configuration. All datapoints shown in yellow have been modified from the Mark II configuration.

b) To write the converted configuration to the meter, click on the Write Checkedbutton (see Figure 6-4). If an error occurs, Daniel CUI will display a messageindicating the nature of the problem. This will necessitate that the problematicparameter be edited manually. In order to successfully complete the download. Aftermodifying the parameter(s), click Write Checked again. Repeat this until the writeoccurs with no errors.

c) Save the Mark III electronics configuration file to your PC. With the convertedconfiguration still displayed, from the Edit/Compare Configuration dialog, click onthe Meter radio button, located next to the Compare button which is grayed out inthis example (see Figure 6-1). Compare the file to verify that this saved configurationmatches the meter configuration. If an error occurs, go back to the beginning of step4 and try again until no errors are reported.

5. Use the Meter>Monitor menu path to display the Monitor window and verify that the meteris operating correctly.

6. Use the Meter>Communications Settings menu path to access the Communications dialog.This dialog displays the communications parameters for the Mark III electronics and is usedto adjust the Baudrate and Comms Address (i.e. Modbus ID) for the serial ports.

You do not need to set the Protocol (ASCII or RTU) because the Mark III auto-detectsthe protocol.

7. Use the Meter>Field Setup Wizard menu path to access the Field Setup Wizard startupdialog. Verify that all settings are correct (e.g., temperature, pressure, meter connections andmeter outputs). In the Meter name field, insert a name for the meter (this name displays onDaniel CUI main window). Ensure the Mark III digital outputs are configured appropriately.The Mark III also supports, and may be configured for, the AGA8 Detailed Method.

8. If changes were made in the Field Setup Wizard, choose to save the configuration whenDaniel CUI prompts you after the changes are written to the meter.

9. You have successfully completed upgrading your Mark II to a Mark III electronics. Click onthe Finish button in the Wizard dialog to write any changes to the meter.
