Madame de Merteuil: She’s a woman of French nobility. She’s also a degenerate, capricious, and demanding. Physically she is old but good body, her skin is very white and all. Madame de Merteuil has got a lot of lovers of differents ages. Viscount of Valmont: He’s a boy of French nobility. He’s also a manipulative with the womens, and he is took advantage of them, he is sex addict and evil. He’s very smart and improvisatior. Physically he is tall and attractive. Madame de Tourvel: She’s innocent, religious, it was everything opposite to Viscount of Valmont, it is of average low and this thin stature, the color of his hair is a clear chestnut-‐tree, the color of his eyes is blue.
3-‐ Write a description of the most representative locations of the age, like the lounges (living rooms), the bedrooms or the gardens. -‐ Century houses on which the film is characterized by a facade contrary to its plain interior is very luxurious, with very showy and bright colours, wooden furniture is very good, be accompanied by large mirrors and paintings flowers very showy. These houses usually have large gardens with with lots of greenery, decorated with fountains and sculptures. The meeting rooms are characterized by being very large, have numerous leather seats and porcelain skin that complement with great lighting, they usually have rooms full of excesses such as the rooms and gardens.
4-‐ Do you think that they are genuine people? What do Mme de Merteuil and the Viscount of Valmont use to dress up in front of the people? Which physical or material elements do they use to build their social identity? -‐ We think that the characters of that era are not authentic, since they deceived the people with lies and have different personalities, the only thing they care about are the appearances pused for this makeup, costumes, wigs. Her friends and their houses used to look like this in front of people and seem to have a perfect life of bliss. In conclusion, the manipulation them must be made elegantly and from the shadows.
5-‐ In the film you can find people who aren’t what they are supposed to be. The society of that age was based on rules, conventions and traditions which stopped people from being what they really were. What are the objectives that each character wants to meet? What means do they use to get those objectives? Are they really happy? -‐ At first the Marquise de Merteuil and had been abandoned by her lover, to marry the virgin Cecile de Volanges, the daughter of his cousin Madame de Volanges. The Marquise asks his former lover and now friend the Vicomte de Valmont, who deflowering Cecile so he can not marry her lover and honored enemy. By rejecting this offer Valmont offers a bet, if Madame de Tourvel causes fall into his arms, she offers a night of sex but to prove it calls a letter written by the handwriting of Madame Tourvel. The aim of Viscount of Valmont, has been conquer Madame de Tourvel, a married lady and very devout. They use all kinds of objects and people to achieve their goals, as bribery and the servant who helps Valmont We do not think they are really happy because Mademe de Merteuil does what he does for revenge men and not be herself and Valmont is a womanizer who seems happy on the outside but deep must be tired of pursues women and we believe thet falls of Madame de Tourvel.
