WHATʼS UP

Andy McNabbCEO

“Fortunately the Mayans were wrong about the world coming to an end on 21

December 2012. Life goes on and so must we….. I therefore wish each one

of you everything of the very best in 2013 and trust that you will look back on

2012 as the start of your pilgrimage to success. To help you on your way here

is a quote from an unknown person: “Live each day as if it were your last, but

learn each day as if u will live forever” - good luck.

I hope you will enjoy this magazine and that it will be the first of many. The

idea is to reflect life at Daly on a monthly basis and for it to be a magazine

which, to quote Abraham Lincoln, will be “of the people, by the people and for

the people”

Hopefully the magazine will be fun to read, will inspire you to become the

person you were born to be and will promote the high performance culture we

are trying to achieve.”

EDITORʼS NOTE

“2012 was a year of change for both the collections industry as well as for

Daly. 2013 promises to be no different with threats of government intervention

and regulation following substantial changes to the NCA in the first half of

2013.

The banks who account for more than 90% of all credit granted in South

Africa, are extremely demanding and have upped the performance and

compliance requirements for collection agencies on their panel. This has

significantly increased the cost of doing business and made performance key

to our staying in business. I am confident that we have made the right

investment in technology and infrastructure to be the best collection company

in the country. We need, however, to improve our collections performance if

we are to achieve our ambition of being recognized as the best collection

company in the country.

In these tough economic times we simply cannot afford to come second –

performance is critical to our staying in business and consequently we need to

make sure that we recruit agents who want to build a business and who value

the opportunity to work at Daly. We can no longer afford to accommodate

agents who are satisfied with earning a basic salary.

My message to everyone working in collections is grow your customer base,

get to know your customers and work with them to repay their debts. We will

do everything possible to assist you – your financial success is our success.

Thank you.”

Page 3: Daly Mail (January)

So push the envelope. Refuse to accept anything remotely close to

mediocrity. Let go of the chains that have bound you to the ordinary. And

definitely leave the crowd. The only place you’ll reach if you follow the

crowd is the exit. Stand for your best. Commit to excellence. Become

massively innovative and wear your passion on your sleeve. They might call

you different or weird or even crazy. But please remember, every great

leader (or visionary or brave thinker) was initially laughed at. Now they are

revered.” – ROBIN SHARMA

BE INSPIRED

In December 2012, Andy Hilton attended the

HP Discover 2012 exhibition convention in

Frankfurt, Germany courtesy of Aptronics, the

company which supplies Daly its hardware.

The event was attended by over 9000

delegates from across the globe who came to

see the latest technologies ranging from

Enterprise Cloud Services to Storage and

Converged Infrastructure. The conference

was hosted by Hewlett Packard (“HP”) who

presented the latest applications and discus-

sions on where technology was headed. From

the pics it seems Andy learn’t more about

German cuisine – Eisbein and Gluwein!

FRANKFURT HP CONVENTION

“Being a leader (at work or at home or in your community) is a lonely act. The very definition of being a leader means you are out in

front – with no one else. Taking the road less traveled. Taking responsibility for results in a world that loves to blame and deny

responsibility. Seeing possibilities that no one else has yet dreamed of. Challenging the way things are. If you were in the herd,

thinking and behaving like everyone else, then you wouldn’t be a leader – you’d be a follower. And that’s no fun.

($150 billion) as well as the staff compliment globally (300 000).

CULTURAL DIVERSITY DAY

What is your role at Daly?Take care of the bosses …lol. I work as a receptionist and do some admin work as well.

What did you do before Daly?I worked for KKS as an assistant catering manager.

What do you like most about being at Daly?I LOVE the people that I work with. Caring, kind, respectful and have a great sense of humour. There is never a dull moment.

What was the happiest day of your life so far?I am always the happiest person whenever I’m with my family. The ability to interact and get support from them = perfect happiness.

What's your personal philosophy that gets you through life?“Because He lives I can face tomorrow” and “My life may not be perfect but I know and thank God that it is good”.

What do you do in your spare time?Go to the Gym, shopping (if there is money available), go out for coffee with friends or go to the movies.

South Africans have been referred to as “The Rainbow Nation”, which is a term that epitomises our country’s cultural diversity. The population of South Africa is

one of the most diverse and complex in the world - which is something to be explored and celebrated!

Dennis Dallas, Colin Salvesen, Andy McNabb

and Craig Nel (Head of credit RCS) played in the

annual RCS Charity golf day on 13 November

2012 at the magnificent Pearl Valley Golf course

in Paarl. The golf did not match up to the weather

which was perfect. The company and networking

(with most of the industry players) was top draw.

Unfortunately, no prizes for the team – maybe

next year!

Colin Salvesen and Andy McNabb attended a Debt Collections

Convention in Manchester, UK on 15 November 2012 where they

met up with Bill Clinton (no not the ex president of the USA, but the

MD of Aspire Money Limited (UK) and Craig White the MD of

Sawfish Software Solutions, who introduced them to Garry Evans,

(Director – International of the TDX Group). Following these

introductions we are now exploring the possibilities of Daly being

placed on the TDX Group DCA panels both in the UK and RSA.

The Debt Collections Convention was extremely interesting. Very

encouraging to see that the changes and culture that we are trying

to implement at Daly are in line with the new philosophies and

legislation which is taking root in the UK and internationally - Big

emphasis on the conversion of the industry into a “profession”

through training and certification and the fair treatment of debtor/

consumers.

to be seated in the Man Utd dressing room.
