This contest was floated by Birla White, division of Grasim Industries Limited and is open to all architectural college students in India and abroad. The competition was held in two categories namely Global Knowledge Centre and Knowledge media cen- tre. Around 2400 students participated in the contest. Ashish Athawale won the first prize of Rs 15,000, a trophy and a certificate in the Knowledge media cen- tre category and Sameer Andre won the second prize of Rs 10,000, a tro- phy and a certificate in the Knowledge media centre category. These students were guided by coordina- tor Prof. Shubangi Shirole and other faculty mem- bers Prof Ravi Nene, Prof Sheetal Chaudhari and Prof. Smita Suryawanshi. Faculty member Prof. Shubhangi was given a sil- ver medal and a certifi- cate for her role as the team guide. Sameer Andre told Cityplus, "Most knowledge is what might be called worldly knowledge-infor- mation or facts about a par- ticular subject and we accu- mulate this type of knowl- edge throughout our lives in a cluster concept that points out relevant fea- tures. The knowledge in itself does not bring about any result; it's on every individual to display an extraordinary talent. The design will create an extraordinary range of spaces rich in form, light and material that together will create an inspiring environment for knowledge and creativity", he adds. Ashish said, "I worked in framework of visual expe- rience. Media can capture an instant Happiness...It can show the beauty of earth from space. It now influences every part of our lives. For e.g. eyes enable to see by stimulat- ing creation of images in our brain. Both are vital record of thoughts, expe- riences of individuals and societies...through which we can enjoy the fantasy world of vital reality," he added. MMCA students win architecture award M outh watering cuisines right from sea food to chicken lollypop, chat items to chocolate sticks and desserts with exciting games and music, it was all about fun at the Saint Patrick Church premises in Fatima Nagar on the occasion of an exhibition and funfare organized by St. Patrick Cathedral. The institution has been organizing this two-day fes- tival for the past 15 years. "We had started this event for community celebration. We get tremendous response. Nearly three to four thousand people visit it each day," said Father Sebastian Mony, main organizer of the event. This year's special attrac- tion was Personality Pageant Show. Upcoming models did a ramp walk on a colorful stage with lights and music. This event also gives platform to youth to express their talent. After achieving success in this show they can get a wild card entry to participate in Femina Miss India compe- tition, claim the organizers. Many games like bowl- ing, dart game, basket ball attracted the kids as well as their parents. There were many stalls of corpo- rates right from educa- tional institutions to real estate to give information about their products. "This festival is very good platform for the business organization. We provide detailed information about our services" says JPS Dayal Director of Simtej7 Academy. "This year we also involved corporates to gen- erate funds. All the money raised from this event goes to charity. Part of the amount will be spent on renovation of the church. We give many scholarships to talented students through this fund," added Father Sebastian. Fun and exhibition for a cause R edcarpet Hospitality and Culinary Academy hosted a Hyderabadi cui- sine demonstration followed by a cooking competition for Pune's expatriates as part of MCCIA's Pune plugged festi- val. Chef Ravish Arora conducted the demonstration in the state-of-the-art culi- nary studio at Redcarpet. Chef Arora introduced participants to Hyderabadi cuisine, its history, ingredients and favourite dishes. The demonstration began with Korme ke Kebab followed by Lukmi, a variation of the samosa, Next was the main course of Hyderabadi Murg korma, chicken in yogurt based gravy flavoured with cashew nuts, followed by Mirchi ka Saalan, Bhavnagiri chillies in a spicy-sour gravy prepared with poppy seeds, peanuts and tamarind which served as an accompaniment to Dum Biryani. The demonstration ended with the deli- cious dessert, Khubani ka Meetha, stewed apricots with cream. The participants were full of questions and various ingredients and some dish- es were circulated to taste. The demon- stration was followed by an exciting, fast- paced cooking competition accompanied by frantic questions and instructions in different languages as expatriates tried their hand at Indian cuisine. The com- petition was judged by Chef Gev Desai, Corporate Executive Chef, ITC and Advisory Council member at Redcarpet Academy and Mukesh Malhotra President of MCCIA and MD of Weikfield. The guests were treated to a delicious lunch which offered a spread of Indian and international cuisine. The lucky winners and runners up received gift vouchers.
