An international vibe Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, yes- terday visited Europort. She opened the new NL flag portal, which will allow more foreign shipping companies to sail under the Dutch tricolor. Afterwards, she received the first copy of the latest Maritime Monitor, which reports about the Dutch maritime cluster. She commented that she was impressed by the exhibition. “In recent years, the number of ships operating under the Dutch flag has increased less rapidly. That is why it is now all hands on deck to turn the tide. We want to remain amongst the best in the world. I am proud to announce this at Europort, the global maritime exhibition.” In a tour around the showground, van Nieu- wenhuizen got an impression about the variety of national and international compa- nies and their products and innovations. She said: “I have been a minister for maritime affairs for two years now and I am surprised almost daily about new innovative develop- ments. The Netherlands is at the forefront when it comes to sustainable measures to combat carbon dioxide emissions, for exam- ple. And what about autonomous sailing? I have seen good examples of this today. We can be proud of our maritime sector and the fact that we are among the best in the world.” Raymond Siliakus, exhibition manager of Europort, is also happy with this year’s show. “We felt a real global vibe this week, with so many exhibitors and visitors com- ing from abroad.“ Today, the 39th edition of the show comes to an end; the next Europort will be held from November 2nd to 5th 2021. Smart Marine approach delivers industry benefits

At this year’s Euro port, the technology group Wärtsilä addresses how customer needs are being met by focusing on the four specific areas: “Build”, “Optimise”, “Maintain” and “Smart Marine”.

“Build” involves the continuous develop-ment of Wärtsilä’s portfolio. For example, extending the Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) to integrated voyage planning; developing e-navigation into integrated fleet operations, and en-hancing voyage efficiency. Wärtsilä also introduces its new high-speed, compact en-gine, the Wärtsilä 14, aimed at applications where the power-to-weight ratio, fuel type, efficiency, safety, and environmental com-pliance are key considerations.

“Optimise” represents the need to create lifecycle systems that deliver real value throughout the life of the asset. Wärtsilä introduces its Expert Insight, a holistic predictive maintenance concept that proactively detects issues, and provides the actionable advice required to solve them.“Maintain” highlights Wärtsilä’s online ser-vices, providing 24/7 access to real-time data and information, while the company’s “Smart Marine” vision is being demon-strated with field labs on the stand. Alter-native fuels, energy savings, hybrid propul-sion, and smart technologies are all being featured.Wärtsilä at Europort:

Safety, reliability and durability At Rotterdam’s Europort, Kelvion is exhibiting a range of products including offshore plants and systems that offer safety, reliability and durability even in the most challenging condi-tions at sea.

One of the products on display is Kelvion’s new ComFinSafety technology, which merg-es its pioneering double tube safety with the ComFin (compact fin) technology. It offers major advantages for applications where the media properties are significantly different, such as transformer cooling systems and ma-chine oil cooling on board ships or in hydro power plants. Those applications require high safety levels combined with a compact design. Kelvion’s shell and tube heat exchanger port-folio is now expanded in terms of safety and compactness. The ComFinSafety system will be available in both standardised and customised versions as double tube safety heat exchangers and trans-former oil water coolers.Another product is Kelvion’s innovative box cooler K10-110. Optimally designed for mar-itime applications and made from the highest quality materials, the box cooler provides ef-ficient, powerful cooling over a long service life. With its small footprint, the Kelvion box cooler is the space-saving option for the sea chest or machine room.

Low operational expenditure and low maintenance costs are attractive features, especially for smaller and medium-sized vessels. This avoids the need for a complete outboard secondary cooling water circuit, dispensing with seawater pumps, filters, valves, and expensive seawater piping. On larger vessels, such as cruise ships, plate heat exchangers are still required. To provide energy efficiency for installations with very limited space, Kelvion’s new exhaust gas heat exchanger features a compact design made from high-alloyed stainless steel, which allows it to withstand temperatures of up to 550°C. Its sturdy setup withstands high con-tinuous stresses caused by vibration and pres-sure pulsation. Kelvion’s exhaust gas heat exchanger comes equipped with a compact finned heat exchanger module, which is easily replaceable and therefore service-friendly. The compact stainless steel finned tube bundles are insensitive to soiling and silting and easy to clean with high pressure as well as cleaning agents.Further bespoke maritime products on show will be a NT50 T gasketed plate heat exchanger, best suited not only for oil but also fresh water and seawater cooling, as well as a high-performance charge air cool-er for high-speed Volvo engines.Kelvion at Europort: Stand 1426

Five questions for...Marc KooleManaging DirectorREINTJES Benelux BVBA

1How important is Europort 2019 for your company and what are your ex-

pectations?I believe that this is the second most impor-tant trade fair in Europe after SMM. Bene-lux is generally an important market for the maritime industry. Of course, we meet our existing customers here and exchange fu-ture project ideas. But also the contact with new customers is possible and important here.

2What is the main focus of your pres-ence at the show?

Our focus is generally on the marine busi-ness, covering the entire market from work-boats to yachts and fishing vessels. We also take the opportunity to present our new down angle development here, a two-speed hybrid gearbox. The first REINTJES gear of this type has been sold in our market and is running successfully. Benelux is generally a market where new ideas are well received, we already started in 2011 with hybrid solu-tions here.

3What do you consider the biggest chal-lenges for the maritime industry at the

moment? There are many different drive sources that need to be combined. I think that only

diesel or only electric driving will not be the solution, but the combination is what makes the difference. This is the challenge currently faced by the maritime industry, to combine different powers and speeds best possible and at the same time generate fewer emissions.

4How does your company prepare for these challenges?

A gearbox as transformer enables switch-ing from one drive source to another so that several applications can be served; e.g., three different input sources driving one propeller. We are therefore preparing to combine more and more different input

drives and outputs with as little emissions as possible.

5To what extent does digitalisation play a role within your company?

Digitalisation is of course a central topic. For example, the REINTJES condition monitoring system is becoming more and more popular in our market. We did pio-neering work with our customers already 15 years ago, when the data collected in the machine room was still exchanged via memory sticks. Today, all this is done via live transmission and the ship is monitored digitally.REINTJES Benelux at Europort: Stand 1501

Yesterday saw a special moment for Hydro Armor, when the offi-cial transfer of two rudder pro-pellers type 4200 to Kapitein Maritiem was celebrated.

Hydro Armor Sales, the distributor of the Hydro Armor plant in France, offers a wide range

of retractable, tiltable and well mounted hydraulic thrusters, hydraulic tunnel thrusters and hydraulic cranes. “We are proud that our extensive knowledge and experience in rudder propellers has led to Dutch Multicat Zeeleeuw setting sail with our rudder propellers,” said

Willy Derksen, owner of Hydro Armor Sales. The Zeeleeuw is part of the versatile fleet of Kapitein Maritiem from Urk. With its advanced fleet consisting of a wide variet y of vessels such as crew boats, pushers, tugs, multicats, workboats, patrol vessels and crew

tenders, they are engaged in the realisation of projects in inland and seagoing waterways. With the new thrusters and an improved manoeuvrability, the Zeeleeuw will be more flexible to deploy. Hydro Armor at Europort:

Japanese diesel engine manu-facturer Yanmar puts special emphasis on emission control with an innovative medium-speed, dual-fuel engine for situations that require very low emissions without compromis-ing on power.

With the 1533kW 6EY26DF engine, Yanmar offers a mediumspeed dualfuel unit that allows operators to switch to and from liquefied natural gas (LNG) and diesel during operation, even under full engine loads. Thanks to its highprecision airflow technology that optimises

combustion conditions, the 6EY26DF meets the requirements needed for reliable and stable use of two different fuel types. The dualfuel engines are already in full operation, for example on tugboats and bunker tankers from Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd, Japan, and Sinanju Tanker Holdings, Singapore. The engine offers fuel flexibility, advanced engine control and cleaner operation, and greater thermal efficiency in gas mode compared with current diesel engines.
