DATE : 1.4.2015 (Wednesday) CLASS : 5 SCIENCE TIME : 8.10-9.30 MINS : 80 ATTENDANCE : 21/24 SCIENCE PROCESS SKILLS : DRAWING ATTRIBUTING RELATING THEME : PHYSIOLOGY OF LIVING THING TOPIC : COORDINATION AND RESPONSE LEARNING OUTCOMES : 3.2 LEARNING OBJECTIVES : By the end of the lesson students were be able to understand response and coordination. SUCCESS CRITERIA(SMART) : Students will be successful if they can :- 1. Draw and label to show the organisation of the nervous system. 2. Name the main parts of the brain and state their functions. 3. Draw and label a diagram of a cross section of the spinal cord. 4. State the main function of the spinal cord. LESSON OUTLINE : INDUCTION (Class/10 minutes) Students view a video clip a boy playing football. Students discuss with teacher the role of a nervous system. ACTIVITY 1(Group/15 minutes) Students are divided into four groups. Students draw and label a tree map to show the organisation of the nervous system. Each group present their tree map. ACTIVITY 2(Class/20 minutes) Students view a graphics of the brain and label the main parts of the brain(cerebrum, cerebellum, medulla oblongata, pituitary, hypothalamus and thalamus) and discuss and state their respective functions. ACTIVITY 3(Class/20 minutes) Students view diagram of a spinal cord . Students draw and label diagram of a cross section of the spinal cord.(grey matter, dorsal root, ventral root, ganglion, spinal nerve) Students discuss the main function of the spinal cord. PLENARY (Class/15 minutes) Teacher summarise the function of brain and spinal cord. Answer questions.
