His insights help audiences see the global marketplace with new eyes. Karlgaard is the publisher of Forbes magazine, where he writes a biweekly column known for its witty and honest assessment of current business issues, a regular panelist on cable news’ most popular business show, Forbes on FOX, and a frequent guest analyst on CNBC’s The Kudlow Report. CSG- WEST 66 th ANNUAL MEETING Rich Karlgaard, Publisher, Forbes magazine Bettye Fahrenkamp Award CSG–WEST Chair Kelvin Atkinson, right, Wednesday presented the Bettye Fahrenkamp Award for Distinguished Legislative Leadership on Behalf of Western States to former Nevada Co-Speaker Lynn Hettrick. Hettrick continues to have a distinguished career serving the people of Nevada. He served in the Nevada Assembly from 1992 to 2006, including a stint as Co-Speaker of the Assembly in 1995 and Minority Leader for 10 years. During that time he also served as CSG-WEST Chair (2001-2002) and as the national Chair of the Council of State Governments (2005). Today, he continues his public service as Deputy Director of the Nevada Department of Agriculture. Women in Politics: How Women are Changing the Workplace and World Thursday, 5:00 p.m.–6:45 p.m. | St. Croix A&B Join “Good Morning America” reporter Claire Shipman as she discusses the changing role of women in politics today. As a career woman who is the mother of two young children, Shipman knows what it’s like to balance a high-profile professional life with a hectic personal life. She will offer tips on how to survive and even thrive in the fast-paced world where political women live today. Shipman is the co-author of The New York Times bestseller, Womenomics: Write Your Own Rules for Success. Shipman’s talk will be followed by Q and A and a roundtable discussion of Women in Politics. Sample and enjoy the tastes of the city as you explore the Las Vegas Valley’s fascinating history through interactive science and nature exhibits, botanical gardens, walking trails and live animal shows within the Springs Preserve. The adjacent Nevada State Museum also will be open. Through its expansive exhibits and collections, the museum strives to enhance understanding of the human and natural history of southern Nevada.

Buses will begin deprating The Mirage at 6:15 p.m. and will shuttle between The Mirage and venue at 15-minute intervals. Policy Committees Health Committee: How Much Does Diabetes Cost Your State? Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–10:30 a.m. | Ballroom D

The rapid growth of diabetes is a large contributor to increased U.S. health care costs. In this session, speakers will explore what diabe-tes costs your state and the way to control those costs, and how policymakers have made diabetes a priority in their state.

Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 Noon | Ballroom E

The inaugural meeting of the Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee will focus on three issues important to rural America. The session will include discussions about agricultural water conservation, rural broadband and the Farm Bill.

As many states see improved tax collections for the first time in years, the Fiscal Affairs Committee will look at what’s next for states, with a look at the state of state economies, key industries and potential impact of federal actions on state revenue projections.

The Education Committee session will focus on preparing today’s youth to acquire necessary skills and leave high school prepared for college and careers in an ever-changing and demanding competi-tive world.
