Daily Agenda for November 15th and 16th DO NOW: • Take your clicker from the front of the class room
and return to your seat• Take out your POGIL that you began for homework
from last classTonight’s Homework:• Finish Mass v Weight handout (you’ll get this
later)• Complete POGIL Activity if you did not finish in
class!
Review #1-7 in your POGILWork with others if needed-5 minutes to review
THINK…DISCUSS… QUESTION!!!Then, we will summarize the Big
Idea from the POGIL #1-7 Any questions about #1-7? With the people around you…
summarize the BIG IDEA from #1-7…we will then popcorn around the room
What exactly IS inertia????
Big IdeasInertia is a measurement of MASS◦Directly related to mass◦More mass, more inertia…◦less mass, less inertia
Inertia is NOT affected by speed or how fast
Inertia is a measurement of how RESISTANT to change an object is.◦ More mass = more resistant◦ Less mass = less resistant
◦DON”T TRY THIS AT HOME…But picture kicking a bunny rabbit vs. a full grown hippo. Which is easier to get from rest to moving (in
other words, which is LESS RESISTANT to change?) The bunny! Less mass…less inertia…less RESISTANT to change!
Imagine they are BOTH running towards you at 50 mph. Which is more difficult for you to stop? (in other words, which is MORE RESISTANT to change?) The hippo! More mass…more inertia…more RESISTANT to change!
Mechanical Equilibrium ( ME) Is when…
The object is not changing its state of motion… so the object is not accelerating… and the net force on an object is zero.
And there are 2 types of it…Static Equilibrium
If it is at rest. What does this mean?
o Zero velocityo Zero acceleration
Dynamic EquilibriumIf it is moving in a STRAIGHT LINE at a CONSTANT SPEED. What does this mean?
o Constant velocity o Zero acceleration
If I push a ball to the right with a force of 5 N and you push towards the left with a force of 3N, what’s the net force? *Hint – draw a force diagram (picture)!*

POGIL- Moving ObjectsWork in groups of 4-5You may work at a lab bench, but
make sure you are able to see the projector
Work efficiently on these problems! Whatever is not finished becomes homework!
At each check in with a teacher. DO NOT GO AHEAD UNTIL YOU HAVE DONE SO.
What’s the BIG idea? What is the difference between Mass,
Weight, and Volume?Quantity of how much matter is in
an object. Units: g, kg, mg, etc.
Measurement of force of gravity acting on an object. Units: pounds (lbs) Newtons (N)
How much space an object takes up. Units: cubic cm, Liters (L), cubic meters
