    Daidoji Naval Warrior (Bushi)

Before there was an Emerald Empire, there was an ocean. When the Kami fell from the

Heavens and took rulership of the land, Lady Doji was given much of the coast. Her

brother Togashi once told her that she would find her end in the ocean. As with any

Dragon riddle, she was first confused by what this would mean. The answer soon

presented itself. The coast had been besieged by pirates. She tasked her vassal Doji

Hayaku with forming a dojo and curriculum to train naval warriors. Over the following

years, Lady Doji wondered if that was the true meaning of her brother's cryptic statement.

Over a millennia, the school had remained relatively unheard of despite its impact on the

Empire. There were many samurai who left, or were thrown out of, the Crane and sought

their freedom on the Isles of the minor clan, the Mantis. It was the Daidoji who first lost

their swords to the ocean and realized the need to train in other weapons. It was the

Mantis that picked up farmer's tools to replace their swords. It was the Daidoji that firstpetitioned Suitengu for safety on the waters. It was the Mantis that established an order of

priests to Suitengu. It was the Daidoji who first learned to fight on boats, before retiring

to their castles every night. It was the Mantis who first learned to live on their boats, and

    explore the ocean.

Today, the school is still largely unheard of. It was only 1166 when the War of Fire and

Thunder broke out between the Mantis and Phoenix that the Empire had its first major

naval battles, in which the Crane were not involved. But with the constant arguing and

aggression between the Mantis and Crane about taxes and usage of ports, many aware of

the situation fear that a war will break out soon. Surely, the Mantis are superior boatmen,

but the Daidoji have honorably defended their coasts since the earliest days of the Empire. Can Crane diplomacy or Daidoji training withstand a storm of the Mantis?
