Once upon a time, there wasa famous Greek engineer.His name was Daedalus.One day, he and his youngson, Icarus, went to Knossos.They wanted to build a big,beautiful palace for KingMinos. They wanted to buildthe biggest palace in theworld for the king.

They made a H U G E palace! People came intothe palace, but they couldn't get out. They gotlost in its many rooms and corridors!

But King Minos didn't like the palace.
I don't likemy palace,and it's allyour fault!
He put Daedalus and Icarus in the palaceand locked them up. But Daedalus was clever.He had a plan.
So Daedalus and Icarus made twopairs of wings. They put the wings ontheir backs and ... off they went! Theyflew out of a high window!
Aah, I think I know ...
We can fly outof the palace. We can be
free!
Look, look,Dad! We'refree at last!
Oh, no!Now we'reprisoners!

No, no, Icarus.Come down!
Don't fly near the sun.The sun can burn
your wings!
But Icarus wasn't careful. He flew
higher and higher. He went nearer
and nearer to the sun.
But Icarus didn't listen. And so, hiswings broke and he fell into the sea.The waves covered him. His fatherlooked and looked for him, but hecouldn't find him.
Oh, Icarus, my son, whereare you? I can'tfind you! The seahas got you forever and ever!
