Succ ess ful candidat es will become m embers of a team that addresses the application of model bas ed control methods, such as mod el predictiv e and optimal control, to solar power plants and their components. The project encompasses physical modeling, tailoring and implementation of control methods , and sim ulation and testing of the dev eloped approach in cooperation with a leading indus trial partner in the field. The Automatic Control and Systems Theory group at the Department of Mechanical engineering of Ruhr-Universität
Bochum invites applications for a
PhD or postdoctoral position in control of energy systems
which is to be filled as soon as possible. Success ful candidates will become members of a team that addresses
the application of model based control methods, such as model predictive and optimal control, to solar power plants
and their components. The project encompasses physical modeling, tailoring and implementation of control
methods , and simulation and testing of the developed approach in cooperation with a leading indus trial partner in
the field.

Requirements for Applicant
Subject Requirements (Qualification)
Ideal candidates have
- a background in automatic control and modeling,
- are interested in research with industrial partners,
- have a master level degree in mechanical, electrical, or energy engineering or a related field if they want to pursue
a Ph.D., or a Ph.D. in one of these fields i f they are interested in a postdoctoral pos ition,
- have good knowledge of German and English. Applicants without German language skills will be given the
opportunity to take German courses for incoming students and postdocs offered by RUB.
Experience in the field of modeling and control theory of energy systems, or experience in thermodynamics, for
example from s tudent projects, are an advantage but not compuls ory. Success ful candidates are expected to
