Increases educator effec=veness and op=mizes student learning and success. This occurs when professional learning is current, consistent and con=nuous. This can come in the forms of: grade level/team staff mee=ngs, consultant/administrator trainings, peer collabora=on and observa=on, mentoring.
DefiniSon: Professional Development (PD)

District 96 staff and administra=on are proposing more consistent and con=nuous opportuni=es for professional learning and development through addi=onal collabora=ve mee=ngs, trainings and peer observa=ons within the district for all staff in order to achieve the “great!”

• Common Core Alignment (≈24 hours aYer first two ins=tute days)
• Professional Evalua=on Reform Act (PERA) (≈ 6 hours)
• Least Restric=ve Environment and Inclusive Prac=ces (≈8 hours, but also incorporated into all PD sessions)
• Response to Interven=on (RTI), Student Assessment and Growth, Data Analysis, Instruc=onal Planning (≈12 hours)
• 21st Century Teaching and Learning (incorporated into all PD sessions)
• English Language Learners (≈4 hours, but also incorporated into all PD sessions)

COST: $100,000 l 4 Ins=tute Days (2 Before School Begins and 10/10/14 and 2/13/14) = 24 Hours at no cost
l Approximately 5 days (30 hours) of professional development with all staff (based on 200)
PROS: Guaranteed a@endance
CONS: Due to sub availability, only training in smaller groups, s=ll need =me to set and sustain the greater context (vision) with whole staff together, disrupts instruc=on, highest cost, difficult to stay current with best prac=ces, fragmented, not consistent

COST: Total Cost: $60,000 without childcare. $70,800 with childcare.

l Early dismissal=12.75 professional development hours for cer=fied staff at no addi=onal cost; hourly rate for paraprofessionals/needed.

l Op=onal childcare ($300/day/site x 9 days x 4 sites= $10,800) Parent Survey Results: 50% need/50% take advantage

• Cost: $124,000 • 4 Ins=tute Days (2 Before School Begins and 10/10/14 and 2/13/14) = 24 Hours at no cost
• 9 hours of monthly mee=ng= 200 staff X $36 curriculum rate=$64,800
• Approximately 3 days (17 hours) of professional development with subs=tute=$60,000
• Pros: School day remains same, instruc=onal =me not interrupted
• Cons: Not 100% Par=cipa=on aYer 4:00/4:15 pm (54% yes/46% no), inequity student experiences based on PDC, cost, how/when will everyone get trained (see op=on #1)
OpSon 3: Monthly Extended Staff for Day

• Time: Elementary 8:00-‐9:00 am and Hauser 8:15-‐9:15 am (60 minutes of PDC) Students start at 9:15 am and 9:30 am
• Time: Elementary 2:15-‐3:15 pm and Hauser 2:30-‐3:30 pm (60 minutes of PDC) Students dismissed at 2:00 pm and 2:15 pm
1 MeeSng Weekly for 36 weeks= 36 hours/year
• Who: All Staff-‐54 Hours
• Cost: $20,000 without child care. $63,200 with childcare. • 4 Ins=tute Days (2 Before School Begins and 10/10/14 and 2/13/14) = 24 Hours at no cost
• Weekly late start/early release=36 hours of professional development at no cost.
• 1 day of professional development with subs=tutes=$20,000
• Op=onal Childcare 300/day/site x 36 days x 4 sites= $43,200 Parent Survey Results: 50% need/50% take advantage • Pros: All Staff, most 36 hours of PD, cost-‐effec=ve, con=nuous and consistent district-‐wide collabora=on, on-‐going, equitable,
current trainings, address all PD topics/needs

Summary and RecommendaSons l D96 is behind other high performing districts: we want to LEAD/be in the LEAD
l D96 curriculum and assessments are not aligned as a district with the state
l Teachers receive inconsistent professional development
l Students are not prepared for new rigor/global expecta=ons
Summary and RecommendaSons RaSonale: In order for ALL of us to con=nue to grow, learn and achieve as a district we need con=nuous and consistent district-‐wide collabora=on, on-‐going, equitable, current professional development.
RecommendaSon: We encourage the BOE to consider ins=tu=ng professional development opportuni=es to unite five schools to be one district which opSmizes teaching and learning in D96!
