KEY CLUB INTERNATIONAL | CNH DISTRICT | REGION 3 | DIVISION 41 SOUTH
VOLUME II | ISSUE 6 | NOV 2012
With the passing of Fall Rally, the realization of Fall is finally
hitting full force! With the memories of Halloween and Fall
Rally just pass, the Thanksgiving Holiday is jumping right at
our toes! But before we get too ahead of ourselves, we
really need to take the time to take care of ourselves! Even
though I feel I have no right to really be enforcing healthy
habits, as I am sick myself, be sure to KEEP WARM! Especially
to those who went to Fall Rally, the season of cold has
seriously CREPT onto us, and our luxurious days of 80 degree
year round weather is finally folding to being kept to under
a brisk 60 degrees. It may sound insignificant to our East
Coast friends, but do keep warm, as YOUR health becomes
before all else—you can’t help anybody if you can’t help
yourself! In addition, keep GETTING SLEEP! This fall break,
really do take the time to take time for YOURSELF! As we
Lions are always used to keeping busy, don’t forget to take
“me” time and unwind and relax! Especially you senior
Alpha Lions—be sure to not just think college aps, but think
SLEEP!
Additionally, with Thanksgiving here as a reminder, we ALL
need to really take the time to give THANKS for everything in
our lives—from family and friends, to mentors and mentees;
be thankful for all your successes and triumphs, but also be
thankful for the bumps and bruises you’ve learned from, be
thankful for what you have, and be thankful for what you
can give—as, I can speak on behalf of the community, we
all are truly thankful for everything that you do: from waking
up before dawn to attend an event, to bearing the
weather to volunteer your time, to humbly helping another,
to willingly spend your valuable days serving your
community. I want to thank you all for making an impact on
my life, as you all have helped open doors and clear
windows in my life. I honestly can say that Key Club is
perhaps the best experience as I am humbled by your
selflessness and your dedication and spirit; I am forever
inspired by you all and I am forever grateful for having a
change to serve the best of our generation.
With December just around the corner, I can only wish that
we continue to finish our term how we started it: STRONG
and with PRIDE!

Selling Raffle Tickets [VP]
[President]
Fundraising with PTSA
Laguna Hills Key Club helped out their
own school by selling raffle tickets at a
home football game. The raffle tickets
were a fundraiser for the school. Many
Key Clubbers came out and it was a fun
event, especially since they could get
into the game for free. Plus, the work was
not tedious and afterwards they could go
and watch the game with their friends.
Not many raffle tickets were sold, even
though they asked people politely and
they declined repeatedly, but Laguna’s
Key Clubbers and head ASB parent were
satisfied with their work and the amount
of raffle tickets sold. Laguna Hills Key Club
continues to volunteer and help their
community one step at a time.

On Saturday, November 3rd, we helped
the PTSA sell raffle tickets to fundraise for
our school at Nellie Gail Gallup Park. From
1-4, PTSA set up a little event where
anyone could come. Not only this, but we
also sold Chick-fil-a which they shared with
us after. There’s nothing better than free
up, it was still great to develop a better
relationship with our school and the PTSA
so they could help us out later on with
fundraising and such. We plan on having
more events with our PTSA in the near
future.

On Saturday, October 20, Tesoro Key
Club Members volunteered at the
Ladera Ranch Candy Hunt at the Town
Green in Ladera Ranch. The purpose of
this annual event is to celebrate
Halloween with the community and to
give the kids an extra opportunity to get
some candy! The Key Club members
had fun scattering pieces of candy and
watching the kids try to find them. They
also helped out with monitoring the hay
ride. Some members even stayed
afterwards to help clean up. Overall, this
event was a great success and the Key
Clubbers really helped brighten the day
for the kids of Ladera Ranch.

On October 9th, Capo Key Clubbers
dressed in medieval apparel and
volunteered alongside knights in shining
armor, medieval musicians, and
blacksmiths. Key Clubbers were
stationed at various craft stations and
booths, assisting visitors with activities
and directions. It was amazing to be a
part of an event where people
marveled at the artifacts from the
Middle Age, learned about the history of
the medieval times, and enjoyed the
music of a variety of medieval
instruments. Being that the event was
close to Capo Valley High School, it was
a wonderful experience to help out in
our local community. Capo Valley looks
forward to volunteering at future

[Historian]
On October 20th, hundreds of Mission
Viejo residents gathered together to
raise awareness about the
consequences of drugs at the annual
Walk against Drugs event. Capo Key
Clubbers hosted a game booth at
the event’s fair, offering candy prizes
for winning our home-made carnival
games. Although the weather was
gloomy, Key Clubbers’ enthusiasm
and spirit never faltered. I was happy
to help our community at this event
while raising money for PTP through
ticket sales. Volunteering at the event
also allowed me to meet some of
Capo Key Club’s new members.
Overall, the Walk Against Drugs event
was very memorable and fun, and I
look forward to volunteering at it
again next year.

Boo Blast
On Saturday, October 27, members of
Dana Hills Key Club volunteered to work
at the annual Boo Blast hosted by
Moulton Elementary School. Members
helped man different activity booths as
well as food and ticket stations and
helped to set, make, and organize the
event’s Halloween-themed decorations.
All of the proceeds made at the Boo
Blast are donated to Moulton
Elementary to help its students learn with
field trips, school events, and new
technology. The turnout was sparse, but
the Key Club members who did come
made a difference with their winning
attitudes and Key Club spirit!

Hufflepuff and Stuff
On Sunday, October 28, I volunteered
with Key Club at the Dana Point
Halloween Half Marathon, part of the
Orange Man running series. In the
Halloween spirit, the event coordinator
had everyone help decorate the stations
with cotton cobwebs and orange-black
tablecloths. Even the winner’s podium
was placed behind a spooky miniature
graveyard. The Key Club volunteers
managed the post-race food station.
Armed with cutting boards and some
colorful cutlery, we divided bananas,
oranges, and bagels into bite-size portions
that attendants could eat on the run. I
think the best part was seeing so many of
the runners come in their Halloween
costumes. Nothing beats a carrot huffing

On October 20th, Heritage Hill had
its annual Harvest Festival. There
were lots of fun game booths like
the bean bag toss, shooting hoops,
and ring toss. There was also a
balloon artist who made really cool
Halloween animals. The booth I
worked at was face painting, which
was really fun because I have never
painted faces before. In addition,
all the kids there were dressed up in
their best Halloween attire and
everyone had a smile on their face!

Tournament in the Hills is an annual
marching band competition hosted by
Trabuco Hills, and it is one of the campus’
biggest events of the year. The THHS music
program hosts this competition as a
fundraiser in order to provide enough
money for transportation, instruments, etc.
This year’s competition was held on
Saturday, November 3rd, and it was TITH’s
20th anniversary! So there was a lot more
work to be done. It wasn’t just Key Club
that was helping out (although we did a lot
of legwork!)—a multitude of clubs from all
over Trabuco (such as CSF, the Music
Boosters, and Spanish Honors Society) put in
effort to make sure the event ran smoothly
and successfully.
The event ran from 6 AM to midnight, and
our Key Clubbers were there all day. It was
a great way of helping the music program
and community.
