Dee in testbeam
Proposal P Bloch, C Seez, Y Sirois
Dee calibration in test beam
Last period of 2006, November
Heavy ions, so highest E ~ 100 GeV
Challenge To use existing H4 infrastructure
Goal Get maximum benefit for EE (and ES?)
4x5 SC arrayfor the test beamin Nov 2006
Dee Calibration Nov 2006
VPT sorting by SC position
Old data
Mean ~33 e/MeV now
TT26=1.57
TT19
=2.5
SC region on Dee
Backplate angle as for beam from CMS I.P.
‘Any 5’ trigger map
DCCboundary
TCCboundary
Appropriate any five trigger mapping
Problem of OPAL frames
Dee frame is an enormous device 3,6 tonnes in weightWill exceed EB turntable weight limitUse it only to transfer Dee to H4, if at all
Dee backplate ~ 1.9 tonne with crystals
Mount Dee on plinth on the H4 turntableDee backplate angled to beam with appropriate support struts
Need FEA to check Dee rigidity
This part of Dee empty,
No weight
Beam
Avoid pivot support
Avoid vertical movementscrew
Special H4environmental screen
Dee on H4 turntable
Benefits of the proposed siting of Dee on turntable
Vertical rotation - in 2004, SCs moved in an arc – difficult to follow- 2005 scheme SCs move ~vertically- unfortunately radius of rotation only ~ 1m
Horizontal rotation - in 2004 adjacent SCs were not horizontal after rotations in the vertical - 2005 scheme, a better x-y grid of xtal positions for data taking/analysis
H4 turntable constraints
Readout needed for 20 SCs 100 trigger GOH 20 data GOH
Short fanouts on DeeFE – DCC 20 optical lines = 2 short fanouts (24 lines)FE – TCC 100 optical lines = 9 short fanouts (108 lines)MEM 24 optical lines = 2 short fanouts
Totals 144 optical lines 13+1 = 14 short fanouts

UK opportunities
Monte Carlo appraisal Comparison – testbeam to Monte CarloIdentify particular regions needing close study Use current geometry in OSCAR or update to
XML?Way in to EE/ES reconstruction algorithms –
urgently needed – no one doing this!
Assembly of 20 SCs VPT databaseBare SC assemblyPre-production HV cardsPre-production umbilicalsTrigger mapping and checking
HV system Final HV system + fanout HV boxAll software drivers completed
VPT stability LEDs At least one system required
EE test beam/analysis Opportunities for the UK to take leading roles………
