At Haikan (at Atlantic Plumbing), ramen lovers are in for a surprise. Instead of mimicking the noodle bowls served at sister restaurant Daikaya, Haikan will offer Sapporo-style ramen, characterized by a miso-infused broth.

SHAW
Right now, the North End Shaw market is remarkably underserved. Only 8% of the market is focused on apparel and accessories. Those sales totaled $8.8 million. Clothing demand estimates from ESRI / D&B put household apparel spending at over $47 million – and all of this doesn’t even include external demand. There are 233 annual fashion and lifestyle events in D.C., over 700 D.C. fashion and style blogs, and D.C. was featured as the #1 Most Shopaholic City in America in the Huffington Post.

CATCH THE
WAVE
Two macro trends have characterized the revitalization of downtown Washington D.C. The first moves from west to east, starting with Georgetown and spreading to Dupont Circle through the 1990s, into the 14th Street corridor in the early 2000s, and most recently up the 14th Street corridor and across the U Street corridor. The second trend began with the redevelopment of the Verizon Center and the surrounding Chinatown neighborhood. This area, like the 14th Street corridor, has boomed in the past decade, sending waves of growth out of the core market. Most recently, CityCenter has fueled this growth, and – along with numerous major developments – spread revitalization north through the Shaw corridor. The North End of Shaw is the nexus of this major urban resurgence.
