Cygnet Sentinel January 2019 Volume XLVII No. 4 COMMODORE’S COMMENTS for January JIYC AUXILIARY What a whirlwind the past month has been. We started our holiday festivities with the Kid’s Tree and Craft Night. Many thanks to Cheri Warren for organizing a great event for the kids. The next week brought the Commodore’s Drop in and Breakfast with Santa. Thanks to all who donated to Toys for Tots. At Breakfast with Santa it was fantastic to see everyone relaxing and enjoying the huge breakfast the men prepared, and to see all the children excited to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. I am so thankful for all the numerous people who volunteered to make this such a great event. A special shout out to Heather Carpenter for all her hard work decorating the club in holiday cheer. The first T4 and cookie swap was fun and delicious. It was nice being able to talk to some different faces and hearing the ideas and positive comments. I am certainly going to put some of those ideas on the schedule. As we wrap up 2018 with the Commodore’s Ball and ring in the New Year with the Polar Bear swim, it is always a time to reset. December was go, go, go and now we can relax in January with a bit more slow, slow, slow. Our general meeting is Monday, January 14 th at 8pm. On Saturday January 19 th is the Wing Cook Off. Hoping the Ladies will want to bake some pies to go along with the wings. We will be looking for Ms. Savory and Ms. Sweet. Bring your best pie and we will let the membership vote for our 2 winners. On January 23 rd we are going to have a Ladies Game Night. Will just be a fun time to play and mix and mingle. January 31 st will be the next T4, but always looking for your ideas and suggestions so feel free to reach out to me anytime. See you around the club, Tia Stanley, President JIYC Auxiliary [email protected] or 843-568-6674 Sailing Meeting January 7 th - 7:00 pm General Meeting January 14 th 8:00 pm Dinner at 7:00 pm Board Meeting January 28 th 7 pm Another year has passed at the James Island Yacht Club and I am looking forward to what 2019 will bring to our club. I hope that each of you had a great time celebrating this holiday season with family and friends. We will finish 2018 with our New Year’s Eve Commodores Ball so please get your tickets. We will begin 2019 with our annual polar bear swim on New Year’s Day. I encourage each of you to come down and let’s brace the chill of the Charleston Harbor together. We will have a Bloody Mary bar set up and the kitchen will be cooking Hop n John’s and Collards around 1:00. I know everyone is ready for dock construction to begin and I am happy to say that in January the piles will be pulled, and we anticipate construction to begin in March. The contract that was signed with Salmons allows them 6 weeks to complete installation so it’s going to happen very quickly for us. 2019 will be an exciting time at the club so I encourage you all to get with a committee and help volunteer a little time to keep this club moving in the direction we need. As we all know, the club is run by the members that take time out of their schedules to make sure that everyone enjoys the benefits of the James Island Yacht Club. The board and I are asking for members to please set aside the 2 nd Monday of each Month and plan on attending the Monday night dinner followed by our general meeting. These meetings don’t last long but give each of you valuable information as to what is going on around the club. Thank you all for your support, and I hope to see you at the club soon! Go Tigers!
