It is amazing that a large percentage of the prone and vulnerable users of Internet are Home users..be it the student,collegiate,house wives or any other guy.And more importantly it is these guys who form a large part of being hacked.Be it their general cyber hygiene habits or lack of IT quotient...they always leave so much things in their PC open that it is always more easy even for a script kiddie to get into the PC and steal valuable personal or classified info.This presentation would bring about a list of DO's and DONT's to harden a normal home PC.

Maximum percentage of internet users will remain the naive Home users and it is this major percentage that needs to be acquainted with the basic cyber security hygiene.This presentation will equip the basic user with a small set of skills to be slightly better on handling security front on their respective PCs

Antivirus company. Their exists a difference between Antivirus and Internet security editions
● Harden your OS Configurations● Use Https

● Keep updated on your system OS
● Be a active reader on security news sites like : THN
● Do not share every thing on Facebook and social sites
● Avoid opening any unknown attachments on emails
● Store your max files on the second partition and not on your primary OS partition ie c:\ drive

● Avoid financial transactions at CYBER CAFE's● Use a password always more then 16
Characters with combinations of Caps,small, numeric and special characters
● Use a good updated ACID rated browser like chrome,mozilla,opera,safari etc
● Disable Administrative shares in ur PC● Use software's like True-crypt for storing your
personal and classified info

● Do not download popup's recommended plugin and software's
● Avoid using unrated apps and plu-ins in your browser
● Do not use same password over different social networking sites

● Maintain a empty desktop with fewer files and always avoid classified files on desktop
● Use opensource OS like Fedora/Ubuntu etc● Do basic hardening of your OS.This you can
take assistance from google search as it is different from OS to OS.
● While using Wifi at home– Do MACBINDING
– Restrict access by configuring number of devices
– Use a strong password as the key

● Instead of buying a Antivirus,it would be better to keep using full trial versions with limited time duration of various companies. Start with Kaspersky,then shift to Mcafee,Norton, Avast, AVG,F-Secure,Panda and the list is endless.
● Keep deleting your cache and deleted files with softwares like Bleachbit or Ccleaner etc
● Always secure delete your files with the combination of shift+delete or use ERASER software
