The university will present “Cyber Security for Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs.” on Thursday, Oct. 16. The panel of speakers includes Matthew Parciak, MasterCard deputy chief information officer, Erica Wilson, associate vice president of information security, Scottrade, Dr. Bo Luo, associate professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of Kansas, and Thomas Imboden, associate professor of information systems and technology at SIU-Carbondale. The second event, “Cybercrime and Law Enforcement,” will take place on Thursday, Oct. 30. Panel experts for this event include Brian Grant, special agent with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Secret Service, and Linda Hemmer, associate vice president of bank operations at MidWest Bank Centre.

Fontbonne University Features Cyber Security Experts

ST. LOUIS — October is Cyber Security Month, and Fontbonne University — home to St.

Louis’ original undergraduate cyber security major — is celebrating with two events geared to-

ward increasing cyber security management and knowledge.

The university will present “Cyber Security for Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs.” on Thurs-

day, Oct. 16. The panel of speakers includes Matthew Parciak, MasterCard deputy chief informa-

tion officer, Erica Wilson, associate vice president of information security, Scottrade, Dr. Bo

Luo, associate professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of Kan-

sas, and Thomas Imboden, associate professor of information systems and technology at SIU-

Carbondale.

The second event, “Cybercrime and Law Enforcement,” will take place on Thursday, Oct. 30.

Panel experts for this event include Brian Grant, special agent with the U.S. Department of

Homeland Security and U.S. Secret Service, and Linda Hemmer, associate vice president of bank

operations at MidWest Bank Centre.

“With Fontbonne’s undergraduate degree in cyber security, we’re taking a lead in the education

of those who will protect this country’s data,” said Mary Abkemeier, chair of Fontbonne’s De-

partment of Mathematics and Computer Science. “We believe that each of us must do our part in

securing cyberspace, including the devices and networks used by the world on a daily basis, and

we’re excited to offer these events to the community.”

Both events will take place from 7 – 8:30 p.m in the Lewis Room of the Jack C. Taylor Library,
