Slide 2 Slide 3 Cyber bullying is when someone uses different types of technology, like mobile phones, games consoles (PS3 or XBOX 360) and computers to threaten, upset and say unkind words to others. The Millbrook Digital Leaders (November 2013) Slide 4 Slide 5 Slide 6 EMAIL - Sending threatening emails or intimidating someone Social Networking Sites - Posting hurtful comments on someone's profile by making fake profiles CHAT - Saying nasty things in chat and instant messaging GAMING - Ganging up on another player or excluding them PHONES - Making prank calls, nasty texts and photo messages WEBCAMS - Making people do things on webcams that upset them FORUMS and Message Boards - Ganging up on someone, excluding someone and making hurtful comments Slide 7 Nearly 43% of kids have been bullied online. 1 in 4 has had it happen more than once. 81% of young people think bullying online is easier to get away with than bullying in person. Only 1 in 10 victims will inform a parent or trusted adult of their abuse. Girls are about twice as likely as boys to be victims and perpetrators of cyber bullying. Over 80% cyber bullying is done on a mobile phone, making it the most common form of cyber bullying. And finally, the average age of a cyber bully is 9 years old! Report any cyber bullying, even if its not happening to you. Never respond /retaliate as it could make matters worst Block the cyber bullies from contacting you. Save and print any bullying messages, posts, pictures, or videos that you receive. Make a note of the dates and times they are received Keep your password private. Dont post any personal information or pictures online. Slide 12 Slide 13 Dont post stuff that is very personal keep an information journal. Think carefully about posting pictures online- once its there, anyone can see it or use it, Dont share your passwords or usernames- keep your password information private. Its not a good idea to meet up with anyone you meet online- you dont know they could be strangers. Respect other peoples views- just because you dont agree with them, it doesn't mean you have to be rude or abusive Slide 14
