About CWDThe Center for Workforce Development (CWD) at Monroe 2–Orleans BOCES provides Career & Technical Education programs that are affordable, short-term and convenient for the adult learner. Course curriculum is industry-specific and emphasizes practical application of key concepts and skills, utilizing the latest technology.

In addition, FREE academic classes are available to individuals 21 years of age or older who are without a high school diploma and who need to prepare for the TASC™ exam. CWD also partners with the local business community by providing customized workforce training programs that upgrade the skills of their current employees.

Welcome to Career Training for Adults, Continuing Education, and Literacy programs at BOCES 2 Center for Workforce Development. There are a variety of course offerings including adult literacy to achieve a high school equivalency diploma (HSE); English for Speakers of Other Languages; career education Middle Skills job training programs – both long-term and short term trainings; customized workforce or incumbent worker opportunities; and personal enhancement courses.

We strive to provide the highest quality of training using equipment and software used in the career environment. Each year, adult students enhance and advance their skill sets by attending BOCES 2 CWD learning programs – either for personal or professional reasons.

Policies and ProceduresParking/Bus Schedules

The Rochester Tech Park facility is located on a convenient RTS Bus line and both facilities offer FREE parking. No cars may be parked in designated fire zones, reserved parking areas, or handicapped parking spaces (without a permit).

Program/Course Certificates

All individuals who successfully complete their program and coursework will be provided with a student copy of their certificate of completion at no cost. Certificates will be distributed during the last scheduled class. There will be a $5 FEE for any additional documentation of attendance or participation in the program once the course is completed.

Damage to or Loss of Personal Property

BOCES 2 assumes no responsibility, either real or implied, for personal property of any adult student. Students should review their own insurance coverage.

Smoking Policy

All BOCES 2 facilities are non-smoking. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on campus, which includes: classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, parking lots, or the school grounds.

This policy includes any lighted or unlighted cigarette, cigar, cigarillo, pipe, bidi, clove cigarette, and any other smoking product matter or substance that contains tobacco, and spit tobaccos, (smokeless, dip chew and/or snuff), in any form. The use of e-cigarettes and any other products containing nicotine, except for current FDA approved smoking cessation products, are also prohibited.

Adult LiteracyIn today’s workforce, you will need a High School diploma or a High School Equivalency diploma [HSE] to qualify for jobs that are “in demand.” Employers must know that you have basic skills in English (speaking, reading and writing) and Math. Growing career fields, such as Skilled Trades, Information Technology and Healthcare, also require higher skill levels in both Math and Science.

Improve your skills by participating in any of our TASC™ Preparation or English as a Second Language programs. Individuals will have the option of enrolling in a Traditional Class or a convenient Home Study Program. Classes are FREE to those who qualify!

All classes are taught by NY State Certified Teachers. You will also work with an instructor to develop an Education and Employment Plan that will include an assessment of your current academic skills, as well as your career interests.

The National External Diploma ProgramThe National External Diploma Program or NEDP is an Adult Distance Learning program resulting in the award of a High School Diploma.

• Competency-based, performance assessment that requires adults to demonstrate their ability in a series of simulations that parallel job and life situations.

Operation Recognition for Veterans• Veterans serving during World War II, Korea or Viet Nam

are eligible to be awarded a high school diploma

• NEDP candidates must meet a set of academic entry requirements and meet with the Assessor weekly for a face-to-face meeting.

• Students successfully meeting these competencies at a mastery level will be awarded a NYSED high school diploma.

• Provides customized, individualized print based distance learning instruction

GRASP – Giving Responsible Adults a Study Program• Successful candidates will be eligible

to pursue their TASC™ High School Equivalency Diploma

Test Assessing Secondary Completion™, or TASC™, is a national high school equivalency assessment to help individuals address their need for advancement, resulting in a high school equivalency diploma. The TASC™ replaces the GED®.

Civil Service Typing Test

In order for a student to enter the BOCES 2 High School Equivalency / TASC Preparation Program, the student must:1. Be 21 yrs. of age or older or be a resident of a participating BOCES 2

component school district, at least 18 years of age (17 for homeschoolers) and no longer enrolled in school.

2. Register for and complete the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) evaluation. (Those students needing Accommodations will be tested each Wednesday by appointment and must provide current documentation of their Accommodations prior to scheduling the assessment. Documentation must be 5 yrs. old or less.

3. Participate in Orientation prior to entering class. Orientation will include discussion of test results, course options and completion of a brief Individual Education and Employment Preparation Plan (IEEPP).

In order for a student to enter the BOCES 2 English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program, the student must:1. Be 21 yrs. of age or older to participate in the ESOL program.

2. Register and complete the BEST Plus test.

3. Participate in Orientation prior to entering class. Orientation will include discussion of test results, course options and completion of a brief Individual Education and Employment Preparation Plan (IEEPP).

We are also an approved test site. This program consists of eight hours of review that will include an introduction to Basic Principles of Refrigeration for CORE, Type I Certification, Type II Certification, Type III Certification. Three hours will be allowed for testing.

OSHA 10 – Construction Online CourseThis is an online OSHA 10 Construction Industry and Safety training program. This program will cover safety issues and procedures that need to be followed in the workplace or job site. At the completion of this program the student will be mailed their OSHA 10-hour Construction wallet card. Visit our website to enroll.

Computer-Based Testing Services Available

OSHA 10 - General Industry Online CourseThis is an online OSHA 10 General Industrial and Safety training program. This program will introduce OSHA policies, procedures, and standards as well as general industry safety and health principles covered in the OSHA ACT Part 1910. Visit our website to enroll.

Continuous Enrollment Fee: $89

EPA Certification (Section 608) Prep & Test (Self-Study)This program is an EPA approved certification program and meets the requirements set forth in SECTION 608 of the Clean Air Act, as regulated by the United Stated Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). We are also an approved test site. This program allows the individual to study at their own pace with materials provided by us.

The information is the same as if you were attending class. The information covers an introduction to Basic Principles of Refrigeration for CORE, Type I Certification, Type II Certification, Type III Certification. Three hours will be allowed for testing. When you are ready to take your test, you will need to contact us. A test date will be set up with one of our Proctors. (Fee includes: Book, PowerPoint and Testing Fees.)

Our Career Training programs provide a certificate in less than 6 months. All training emphasizes hands-on learning and utilizes the latest technology. These programs offer the opportunity for the adult learner to re-enter the workforce with new or upgraded skills. All full-time students are provided with Employment Skills Development and Employment Search Assistance in their chosen field. The overall employment rate of CWD graduates is 85 percent.

Any adult, 17 years of age or older, may apply for admission. The first step is to attend an Information Session (schedule below). Funding Resources are available for individuals who meet certain eligibility requirements.

Financial AidMany of the classes offered at the BOCES 2, Center for Workforce Development, can activate certain sources of financial aid. Attend one of our Information Sessions to speak with our Financial Aid Advisement team. If you are a Veteran, you may be able to activate your education benefits. People with barriers to employment may be eligible for grant monies to cover the cost of job training. Workforce Investment Act (WIA) monies may also be available to students who are eligible. Our Admission Advisors and Financial Aid Advisement team can help you navigate through the organizations that provide educational funding. You may also contact your own bank or savings & loan for information about applying for a student loan. These options are discussed at every Information Session – attend one today!

Full Time InstructorsBeth Cimo, Administrative Assistant Instructor. Beth holds her High School Diploma from Gates Chili Central School District and has pursued post-secondary course work in Adult Education Studies and English at SUNY Empire State College. Forklift Training(OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178)The forklift certification class includes classroom theory and practical evaluations. The student will review legislation relating to OSHA (Occupational Health and Safety Act). The student will learn how to respond to an emergency situation involving a forklift. The instructor will list specific driving rules for the student to use and follow. The course involves review and testing both written and practical. A certificate of completion and a wallet card will be issued at the end of the course to all students who successfully complete the program. The practical portion of this class is held outside – come dressed for the weather. No lunch provided.

Learning MASTERCAM X7 MILL 2D (CNC software) This is a step-by-step instructor led introductory training course. The MASTERCAM Demo Software is included with the book for student use. Part-time Program Policies1. Every effort is made to conduct classes as listed in this brochure.

However, circumstances sometimes make it necessary for classes to be canceled, postponed, combined, or for instructors and classrooms to be changed.

2. Classes must reach a minimum enrollment at least four business days prior to the start of that class. If it is necessary for BOCES 2 CWD to cancel a class, you will be notified by phone or by mail. You may transfer to another class or receive a full refund.

3. You are enrolled as soon as your registration and payment are received, unless you are otherwise notified. A receipt will not be mailed. (Your receipt will be handed out the first night of class)

4. Fees for all classes must be paid in full at the time of registration.

5. Our programs are open to all persons regardless of residency. BOCES 2 CWD affirms the right for all individuals to participate equally in our programs, regardless of race, religion, sex, age, national origin, or disability.

Additional Policies/Procedures:Any individual 17 years of age or older may register for part-time courses. High School students must be at least 17 years of age and have written permission from their High School Principal or Guidance Counselor.

Students are registered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Student is registered as soon as payment is received.

Acknowledgments are not mailed. Note the scheduled date of the first class meeting. Registration fees DO NOT include books or supplies.

Cash, Check, Money Order, and Credit Cards (VISA/MasterCard) are acceptable forms of payment for registration, books and supplies.

Corporate/Business Billing is available; UAW/GM tuition vouchers accepted. Receipts for MAIL-in registration will be provided at the first class meeting.

Refund Policy: (Part-Time Programs)

Registrant cancellation must be done 5 business days prior to the first scheduled class and original receipt must be presented in order to receive a refund. If payment is made by Check or Cash, refunds may take 4 - 6 weeks to process. A check will be mailed to the address on the submitted registration form. If payment is made using a Credit Card, the dollar amount will be credited to the individual’s account. In addition, the credit slip will be mailed to the address on the submitted registration form.
