On Friday, May 30th, Ed spoke to the region’s professionals from the Baltimore, Bethesda, D.C. and Tysons offices.

Ed encouraged C&W professionals to “embrace complexity and grab those tough situations.”

Ed met with leaders from the occupier and investor services groups, as well as women in the D.C. region.

CHILDREN’S INN & CWFL

As part of the D.C. Region’s special partnership with the Children’s Inn at NIH and under the leadership of the local CWFL chapter, a dozen volunteers served a fiesta-themed dinner of salad, tacos and dessert to almost 70 kids and their families on June 25. Best of all, after dinner was finished, the team hosted a fun-filled hour of piñata games, with each kid taking a turn at swinging the bat at our two candy-filled piñatas.

The Children’s Inn staff later said that the gathering was one of the largest turn-outs from the families and C&W

is very proud to have brought joy to them. The parentsexpressed great appreciation to the team and each family’s story makes a lasting impression.

The Region banded together and raised and contributed money to cover the costs of the meal, decorations and supplies for the Family Dinner. A big thank you to everyone who supported, contributed to and volunteered!

On May 7, C&W welcomed students from Washington and Lee University’s Williams School of Commerce, Economics, and Politics for a lunch and learn about tips for young professionals just starting out, the commercial real estate industry and what makes C&W a great place to work!

Topics covered included retail brokerage, tenant representation, investor services, corporate finance

and investment banking, valuation, research and marketing.

Speakers described their job, how they got involved in the commercial

real estate industry and the benefits of C&W. Sarah Dreyer, rising CWFL chair, also discussed the great CWFL program.

JDRf Real esTaTe Games

The C&W ChRonICle

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Real Estate games is an annual fundraiser sponsored by the Washington, D.C. area real estate community to benefit the JDRF greater Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter, the leading charitable funder and advocate of T1D research worldwide.

Adam Singer and Rick Kimbell founded the JDRF Real Estate games in 1989 – this year, the Real Estate games celebrated its 25th year Anniversary! Sherry Cushman has served as the Chairman of the event, went on to become a member of the JDRF Executive Board and

served as JDRF’s Washington, DC Metropolitan Area President for two years overseeing an $8 million/two year fund raising goal. As a reflection of her hard work on behalf of JDRF, Sherry was named the organization’s Hope Honoree in 2012 for her 25 years of commitment of raising funds to find a cure for Type I diabetes.

This year, the D.C. region’s CWFLers participated whole-heartedly in the field day activities, ranging from beach volleyball to a big tricycle derby to tug-of-war. C&W participants took home top winnings in the lacrosse competition and everyone had a great time!

The D.C. Region hosted a talented group of college interns this summer, who joined us to learn more about the CRE industry and C&W. During the seven-week program, the interns:

• Received real-life experience working on projects with various teams across service lines

• Benefitted from an intern performance evaluation process• Participated in networking and mentoring opportunities• Culminated the program with professional presentations given to the region

Each intern exhibited incredible charisma, maturity and passion that was extremely contagious and each delivered incredible messages about their experience in their final presentations.

They all embody our culture and our region is very pleased to have worked with and imparted knowledge on them this summer.

Brendan Holloway and his wife welcomed son nolan John holloway (7 lbs, 9 oz) on July 6th.

Lindsay gorman and her husband welcomed their daughter Evelyn kate Gorman (6 lbs, 12 oz) on May 24th.

Rob MacDougall and his wife welcomed their son Jude Thomas macDougall (8 lbs, 8 oz) on March 20th.

Erin Sawicki and her husband welcomed their son michael Declan sawicki (7 lbs, 1 oz) on May 11th.

Jon Casella and his wife Jamie welcomed their son Cooper (8 lbs, 2 oz) on July 15.
