Transcript of CVSNWK Newsletter December 2013
Many thanks to everyone who attended the CVSNWK Annual General Meeting at St Botolphs‘ Hall on Friday 4th October.
This year’s event was held in conjunction with our ‘Positive Communities Event’, which was ably hosted by Sarah Williams and featured workshops and presentations from Health Watch Kent and The Clinical Commissioning Group.
The day also featured a wide range of stands and displays from CVSNWK member organisations, giving them the chance to promote their work and network with other groups.
This year’s event was a great success and we would like to thank everyone who took part - we couldn’t have done it without you - and we hope to see you all at next year’s Annual General Meeting in September 2014

Scollard Scores SilverPeter Scollard of No Walls Gardens CIC has been awarded a coveted Silver Prize in the Kent Wildlife Trust “Wildlife Garden of The Year” competition.
On receiving his award from the Mayor of Tonbridge, Peter said “It’s fantastic to be recognised for all the effort and ideas I’ve put into my garden at home. I hope that next year I’ll be back again with a No Walls project... and I’ll get a gold!”
No Walls Gardens is based in Northfleet and they undertake community gardening projects throughout the area. They work with ex-offenders, long term unemployed and a diverse range of clients delivering gardening, and life, skills while helping the community.

Northfleet North Big Local held their “Lift Off” at Lawn Road School on Saturday 9th November.
The event announced the release of the funds needed to take their plans forward. It was attended by around 400 people, who all enjoyed a wide range of entertainments; from hog roast to facepainting.
The Nortfleet Brass Band and the cadets of the Black Knights Marching Band roused the crowd while the Caveman Brewery from Swanscombe supplied the beer tent with their excellent ales.
Many local organisations, including CVS and the Northfleet Harbour Restoration Society had stands at the event and the evening ended with a spectacular fireworks display to the music of “Star Wars”.
Local businesses were also involved; the Hot Rod Diner donated chilli and hotdogs while Can Do Tool Hire and Discount Builders Merchants supplied vital safety equipment.
CVSNWK was happy to attend and support the event - not just in our role as the trusted organisation, but because we really believe that what’s happening here is something good for the community.
Northfleet North Big Local are currently seeking an experienced Community Development Worker to help take their plans to the next stage. If you would be interested in finding out more, please see their recruitment advert on page 7 of this newsletter.

CELEBRATE A LIFE13.12.13
Alzheimer’s & Dementia Support Services
Welcome to Silent World Sans Frontieres, a new and exciting social enterprise project founded by Gary Harding and Diane Marsh.
The main aim of this project is to raise Deaf Awareness within Gravesham and the South East of England.
Through interactive and engaging workshops, people can gain insights to the barriers that the deaf
and hard of hearing face in their everyday lives.
The workshops are presented by Gary Harding, a recent UnLtd award winner who is a profoundly
deaf person himself. Using his and other people’s life experiences, slideshows, videos and demonstrations
Gary is able to really bring an incredibly special, inclusive and engaging workshop.
Learn how to fingerspell and practice British Sign language! Learn how to communicate with someone
who is deaf! We make it fun!
The Workshops take 3 hours and are appropriate for people who are not deaf aware.
Our prices are available on request
For further information, contact Gary Harding via website www.silentworldsanfrontieres.org.uk or call
