Motivation Letter

Dear sir /Madam,

I feel honored to write this letter of motivation to apply in your university to attend PhD Studentships in Agricultural Economics, Bioeconomy and Rural Development, at which will start in 2020. My name is Susie Teshome and most recently I have been working as a lecturer at Woldia University. I hold my Bachelor degree in Agricultural Resource Economics and Management from Hawassa University and MSc degree in Agricultural Economics from Haramaya University.

The postgraduate curriculum in Agricultural Economics, at Haramaya University, introduced me to a wide variety of courses in the field of Agricultural Economics. Various courses like Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Operational Research in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Project Planning and Analysis, Farm Management, Production Economics, International Trade, Natural Resource and Environmental Economics, and Senior Seminar provided me with a strong footing in Agricultural Economics and it will be easy to me to learn and implement practically. While offering both depth and breadth across this field, these courses put into perspective the importance and relevance of Agricultural Economics and the application of its fundamentals to the problems faced by the real world.

I have taught for more than four years in my country at Woldia University. Besides, I was responsible in advising students, and consulting the community in my field of study. During my stay in the University I proved myself to be able and efficient worker. I am confident, positive and optimistic in applying advanced technologies. My academic performance has been always top of class.

I am much eager to adopt and know new technologies. I am really enthusiastic to attend a scholarship offered by your organization in Agricultural Economics, Bioeconomy and Rural Development in order to understand different concepts and its applications to more complex real life situations. The good reputation of high-quality learning standards and research facilities are the factors which have motivated me to apply in this scholarship programme at University of Giessen. That is why I am contemplating to educate in such internationally known University.

Today, it is unlikely to get further education in the needed field of study in my country Ethiopia because the government can’t afford the expense for it and there is no any as such qualified professional manpower. The program will create a situation for me to encounter a group of people from all over the world with diverse backgrounds, culture, and opportunity to share and develop mutual understanding of each other. These circumstances also persuade me to apply PhD degree in DAAD scholarship programme.

Moreover, I feel I am responsible for making a big move in this scholarship and it will give me a big chance to be one of your scholarship participants and fellow.
