Personal Statement
I have been in employment since 1998. Three years ago I had a serious accident and broke my hip in a fall. I am now completely recovered and am seeking employment. My previous posts have been in supervisory roles in manufacturing industry.
My experience covers various roles including quality assurance, laboratory work, environmental, engineering and production. I also have experience as a technical sales manager.
I feel that the mix of roles has given me a good understanding of the manufacturing process, including environmental issues. Within these roles I have attended management meetings and completed my training as an ISO auditor. I have also gained qualifications by various short term courses.
I also have experience in the sales environment. This has made me appreciate the importance of the link between manufacturing and sales.
As can be seen from my employment record, I am adaptable and have enjoyed working in various positions with different roles and responsibilities.

Whilst completing these courses, I also completed a course in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (May 2004). During these employments, I also commenced a degree course with the Open University in Environmental Pollution Control. Unfortunately after two years I had a postponement of this course. All these courses were funded completely by my employer. With Interface Craigavon I have completed a course in Mission Zero – Level 2 .
LEAN manufacturing/CI techniques and Processes including 5S, TPM, SMED, SIX Sigma, PM, Flow etc. gained within a manufacturing environment
I was a team member at Ballymoney Foods which was responsible for the designing of the process flow of a new manufacturing process line. I also built up a planned maintenance system including asset register to ensure machinery and plant ran efficiently and effectively. I was involved which the project team which continuously amended the packaging process including installation of advanced packaging equipment (Aquarius). I was responsible for the monitoring of the above projects to ensure that the team met their targets within the individual projects. I used Microsoft Project to achieve this.
At Ulsterfarm By-Products I was part of the project team that amended the process to install new plant and technology (DAF Unit). I also continually monitored and maintained an activated sludge treatment facility. Adjusting from laboratory analysis, to achieve efficient process.
I was a member of the Technical Production team at Interface, and was involved in a project which reduced waste by stepping into the process identifying key areas of wastage for amendment. I assisted the Quality Manager and NPD Manager who where responsible for qualifying of products and completing ‘Constant Modes’ on machinery in order to achieve efficient and agreed tolerances.
Ability to design and implement comprehensive learning and development initiatives
I trained the engineering, production and management teams in the use of Pantek – Plan 4 (planned maintenance system). To accomplish this I used Microsoft Project to monitor this training programme. Microsoft PowerPoint was used as a presentation tool.
I assisted in the training of operators in the newly installed Aquarius packaging line. This was a hand’s on operation involving physically demonstrating the methods. By monitoring the quality of the output, and volumes achieved, training continued in a live environment.
Using Microsoft Project to ensure that the timely installation of a DAF Unit and a Decanter system was achieved. I used PowerPoint as tool to present the project to senior management. I was solely responsible for the training of the operators in the techniques necessary to efficiently use the new equipment. These operators reported solely to me and I was responsible for their performances. The quality systems and statistics allowed me to maintain and review the training when required. I held daily meeting with my operating team to ensure the efficient running of the plant.
Previous management experience including project management and technical awareness
I have been trained in the use of Microsoft Project plan. I believe this tool to have been of great use and benefit throughout most of my career to date. I have used this to monitor and where necessary alter and adapt project management plans. I have also found it of great benefit in communicating the progress in projects to senior management. Frequently I have used PowerPoint as a tool to achieve and aid in this communication.
I have been trained as lead auditor in ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001. I have been involved in this role in all my previous posts. During my time with Technidrive Solutions I was involved in the designing of inverter drive control systems. Problem solving was a major area of my work. Dealing with customers, I was expected to solve their technical issues relating to inverter drive control systems.
Technical awareness issues were an important area of my role within Ballymoney Foods. Problem solving issues relating to vacuum packing machines, such as sealing issues and timing were areas where I required technical awareness.
Whilst employed at Ulsterfarm By-Products, I was responsible for the efficiency of the activated sludge treatment plant. This involved liaising with Queens University and T.W. Environmental in technical issues as they arose. Quality testing and trend analysis aided efficient running of the system. I assisted the NPD and Quality managers in the qualification of products on tufting machinery. I reviewed and controlled the product over a period of time and performed ‘Constant Modes’ to ensure the product remained within tolerance levels.
Previous experience of measuring cost/value for money
I have assisted senior management in my previous roles in Ballymoney Foods and Ulsterfarm. By-Products in preparing project budgets. Further using Microsoft Project I controlled resources, staffing and related costs to ensure projects remained within budget constraints.
I was responsible for running the activated sludge treatment facility, and reporting actual costs compared to a monthly budget. I was expected to remain within these constraints and report any variances to senior management.
