• Resume = “summing up”– Only 1-2 pages– Focuses on job experience/skills

• CV = curriculum vitae = “course of life”– Focuses on education, publications, experience– Longer than a resume but be brief

CV Format

• There is no “right” way to format

• DO NOT use a template

• DO NOT include: – Marital status– Age– Race– Nationality– Citizenship– Language (unless…)

• Use a “professional” email address– i.e. your student email

• Be aware of what your email address reveals about you!– [email protected][email protected][email protected]

• Reverse chronological order• Do not necessarily need to include ALL

education– Higher education most important

Experience

• Reverse chronological order• Separate Research Experience and

Laboratory Techniques into two separate sections

Areas of Interest

• Depends on the job/position• Shows whether you are a “good fit” for the

position– Industry– Graduate School
