WORK OF EXPERIENCE

Presently contracted to Mermaid Subsea on a cable laying project offshore Qatar as Shift Supervisor on the DP3 vessel the ‘Bourbon Evolution 808’ on behalf of LS Cables and Qatar Petroleum

Cable Lay and Wind Farm:

My position as Operations Supervisor primarily involves the safety and welfare of all vessel crew and personnel and the integrity of the companies and charterers assets, I report directly to the OIM and have permanent communication with all heads of cable laying departments and Client Reps

I am responsible for the positioning of the vessel relevant to the intended cable lay route, responsible for the speed of the cable lay in relation to carousel speeds and lay tensions and plough burial depths

As Operations Supervisor the job also includes supervision for the mobilisation of the barge and loading cable at the beginning of the project along with all necessary equipment and stores for the vessel project. Key duties included:Liaising with HSE Co-ordinator to ensure personnel follow Company Health and Safety and Environmental Protection PoliciesOperational manoeuvring of the vessel while ensuring full communication with the Shift Supervisor and Deck Foreman, Plough Control and Survey teamsCo-ordinating of support vessel logistics including anchor deployment, positioning and recovery, supervising tug operations for towing and berthing and overseeing crew and cargo transfers.Monitoring weather forecasts as well as tidal and visibility conditions for safe operations.Completing daily progress reports, full proper and legible records including log book and hand over notes.Ensuring an adequate inventory of equipment and critical spares.Ensuring safety and emergency equipment, fire fighting equipment and the seaworthiness of the vessel. Taking part in all required drills and safety meetings

Projects:

Employed through Mermaid Subsea as Shift Supervisor on a cable lay project connecting the isle of Halul to mainland Qatar at Ras Laffan,

the project involved mattress laying, PLGR, route survey and cable jointing disciplines.

Completed a project through SubServPro to Prysmian Power Link Services on their cable lay barge the 'Cable Enterprise' as Operations Manager where we successfully laid a 36km power cable for Jersey Electric from Normandy to Jersey on the JN3 project. This project involved the vessel grounding at beaches for first and second ends and cable burial using a SMD plough through extremely adverse sea bottom conditions and very strong tides and currents.

June 2013 to February 2014 employed by Prysmian Power Link as Operations Manager on the cable lay barge ‘Cable Enterprise’ installing a 54km power cable in Vietnam between the island of Phu Quoc and mainland Vietnam at Ha Tien.This project involved cable burial using a SMD plough and floating the first and second ends ashore at distances over 2km.

March 2012 to March 2013 employed by Global Marine Energy / Prysmian Power Link as Barge Operations Manager on the cable lay barge ‘Cable Enterprise’ installing the four export cables for the Gwynt Y Mor wind farm.This project involved the vessel grounding at the beach end and SMD plough for burial and the use of a quadrant for second end pull ins at the sub stations.

In June of 2010 SubOcean offered me and I accepted the position of barge-master of their cable laying barge UR101.As Barge Master I was directly responsible to the OIM for the positioning of the vessel relevant to the intended cable lay route, responsible for the speed of the cable lay in relation to carousel speeds and lay tensions and plough burial depths

The job of master involved the safety and welfare of all barge crew and personnel employed on the barge, the day to day running of the barge, stability and loading conditions, coordination and positioning of the 8 anchors of the barge as well as the pull ahead anchor by utilising the three anchor handling tugs and driving the barge on those anchors to lay the cable.

Jan 2011 to March 2012 employed by Technip ( TOWL ) as Barge Master on their cable laying barges the 'UR101' and 'AMT Discoverer' laying the export and array cables for the Lincs and Inner

Dowsing and the Outer Gabbard Offshore Wind farms

In 2008 I was offered and accepted employment as a positioning surveyor with Gardline working in conjunction with SubOcean on their barges and DP vessels laying cables on wind farms namely Robin Rigg and Rhyll Flats around the British Isles and in the oil fields off Saudi ArabiaThis job involved the positioning of the anchors for the 8 point barge the route planning for the cables on the wind farm and the actual route plotting of the laid cable as well as processing as laid data for the OIM and clients.

Employed on various small cargo vessels starting as a DHU in 1978 , passed my first officers course at Hull College in 1983 and working as Master ( Obtained from Warsash College ) from 1986 onwards serving the near European trade until 1998

In 1998 I became involved with working on survey and diving vessels, working as Master on various vessels, including

'Terschelling ' A dive support vessel with ROV's that has a four point mooring system she was involved in salvage and archeological projects including work on the ' Mary Rose '. Also worked with Southampton University in their development off AUV’s.

'Pacific Horizon' Involved in underwater experimental work with various European governments and with pipe line survey work in the GOM

'Scotian Shore' This vessel was used on the West African cable lay project in conjunction with Alcatel, we were employed to clear the seabed for the outward legs of the cable for the majority of the countries between Senegal and Namibia

' Strilbas' This vessel was employed mainly by the aggregate companies around the British isles where we were conducting side scan sonar surveys followed by vibocore and CPT sampling. She was also used in the development of AUV's by the University of

'Utec Surveyor' This vessel was based mainly in Ghana where we were employed in Ghanaian, Nigerian and neighboring countries carrying out site surveys for various oil companies, the surveys utilised seismic, SSS, magnetometers, sub bottom profiler and vibrocore work

Also employed working on small boats carrying out inshore surveys, safety boat work and ornithological surveys

Have experience of tugs and towing work as towing master for deep sea and ocean passages , and during dredging work and for the aggregate industry.
