Custodian Review: December 7, 2016 (JOB #16-97) CUSTODIAN POOL (1-2 positions), $13.38/$21.72/hr. Appointments are normally made at the beginning of the salary range. Temporary, intermittent hourly position in the Department of Housing & Resi- dence Life. This position is not eligible for state benefits, but may be eligible for medical benefits only under the Affordable Care Act. Qualified candidates will be placed in a pool to be called in on an as-needed, day-to-day ba- sis. The Custodian pool will expire December 31, 2017 (12 month pool). DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Housing Facilities and the general direction of a Lead Custodian, incumbent will perform custodial duties in the residence hall facilities; specifically, detail cleaning and sanitation of restrooms, shower rooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms; detail cleaning of offices, lounges, stair- wells, entryways, corridors, and during university break periods, student rooms. Responsible for removal of trash and recycled materials from buildings; and interior and exterior window washing. Operation of carpet cleaning equipment, such as extraction machines and Host carpet cleaning systems. Performance of other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: One year experience in the custodial field. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: Must possess the level of competency to understand University correspondence, Material Safety Data Sheets, cleaning and safety procedures, and instructions on product labels; knowledge and understanding of the safe use of cleaning chemicals and proper labeling of supplies. Knowledge of equipment maintenance. Ability to follow directions to use and care for janitorial supplies and equipment; ability to observe safe working procedures and to organize cleaning areas and maintain work areas in the safest manner pos- sible. Necessary hand and digit dexterity to operate equipment specific to the trade. Ability to climb and transport ladders, move heavy furniture, bend and lift objects up to 50 pounds routinely. Ability to clean stairs and ceilings. Routine floor maintenance including auto scrubbing, stripping and waxing. Applicants must have ability to main- tain effective relationships with students, co-workers, parents and campus visitors. Experience working effectively with a diverse population. A California driver’s license is required as well as the ability to drive automatic and standard transmission vehicles. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous residence hall custodial experience is desirable.
