Curvilinear Motion Systems LinearRotaryCurvedLinear + Curved = Curvilinear
Guide Wheel Based Motion Basic principle
Guide wheel rolls on matching track surface
• Wheels are ball bearings with external running surfaces
• Rails are linear profiles with running surfaces
• Rings are curved rotary profiles with running surfaces
Guide Wheel Based Motion Key Advantages
Vee surfaces generate a “wiping” action when used on matching linear vee rails
• Difference in peripheral speed = velocity gradient
Works in harsh environments exposed to dust, dirt or debris
• Wiping action pushes debris out of the way• Often the best solution for dirty applications
Guide Wheel Based Motion Key Advantages
Bearing balls are internal, protected and lubricated for life
• Seals or Shield options
Big advantage over recirculating ball linear guide technology
• Balls run on exposed rails directly• Limited seal protection• Debris ingress leads to rapid failure
Guide Wheel Based Motion Key Advantages
Provides smooth & quiet operation with high load carrying capacity
• High quality bearing grade steel Carbon and stainless steel
• Hardened for durability• Precision ground surfaces
Very low stiction and coefficient of friction Industrial grade and performance
• Suitable for continuous use
Guide Wheel Based Motion Key Advantages
Adjustable eccentric bearing mount• Set preload between wheel and rail/ring• Adjust play due to wear• Longer usable life• Replace rail/ring, or wheel
Profile rail must replace both
Motion Components Guide Wheel Designs
Slimline bearing type• Single row ball bearing• Low profile, lower capacity• Lowest cost
Twin bearing type• 2 individual ball bearings• Compliance, smoother running• Tolerates misalignment
Slimline
Twin
Double
Double row bearing type• Single piece double row ball• Higher load capacity• Slightly more debris tolerance
Floating bearing type• Needle rollers• Axial movement• Prevents binding on parallel rails
Floating
Motion Components Guide Wheel Comparison
Motion Components Guide Wheel Designs
Studded Wheel Journals• Mount into through holes
Standard heel plates Custom machinery
Blind Hole Type• Mount to solid base (blind)
Thick mounting base Adjust from the front
Motion Components Guide Wheel Standard Sizes
70-degree vee Based upon OD
• 13• 18• 25• 34• 54
Motion Components Guide Wheel Standard Sizes
90-degree vee Based upon OD
• 64• 95• 120• 128• 150
Up to 50kN radial capacity on the 150mm bearings
• 11,000+ lb-F
Motion Components Linear Guide Rail/Track: Heavy Duty
90-degree vee Size 25 and 33
Motion Components Linear Guide Rail/Track: Double Edge Spacer Slides
70-degree vee Section widths from 12mm up to 120mm
Motion Components Linear Guide Rail/Track: Single Edge Spacer Slides
70-degree vee Use in pairs for wider mounting, high moment load capacity Available with gear rack cut in back face
• Already parallel to vee slide = no assembly alignment!
Motion Components Linear Guide Rail/Track: Single & Double Edge Flat Slides
70-degree vee Does not include the spacer material Lower cost, lower weight
Application Curved Machine Doors Flat slide with rolled radius to guide machine doors
Exposed to process debris, metal chips and metal fines
Application Machine Doors Flat slide and vee bearings to guide machine doors
Exposed to process debris, metal chips and metal fines Spacer allows debris to fall through
Motion Components Linear Guide Rail/Track: Precision Grades
P1 – Fully ground, high accuracy P2 – Ground on key surfaces P3 – Not ground, lowest cost
Motion Components Assembled Carriage Plates
Pre-designed for use with linear rails Aluminum plate with guide wheels mounted
• Wheel covers or track wipers• Threaded holes for mounting
Motion Components Rotary Guide Rings
Many standard configurations, versions and options Matching cross section to the linear rails
• Allows for combining straight to curved motion profiles
For use with the guide wheels, and/or the carriage plate assemblies
Motion Components Rotary Guide Rings: Ring Disc
Ring made from a solid plate• External vee surfaces• Optional gear teeth
Motion Components Rotary Guide Rings: Vee Rings
Double Vee, Internal Vee, External Vee
Motion Components Rotary Guide Rings: External Vee Rings
Motion Components Rotary Guide Rings: Internal Vee Rings
Motion Components Rotary Guide Rings: Load Capacity
Determined by the size and number of wheel bearings
