Class Brochure Class Description Spanish 46 ¡Bienvenidos! This class will focus on learning the Spanish language and culture through a variety of engaging and interactive techniques such as song, dance, games, authentic activities,etc. in order to expand student knowledge of the language and create a broader global perspective. The class will end with an exhibit/ presentation on the final day of the class for family and friends. Cursive 35 Learn cursive this summer! This course will not only teach the basics of the cursive alphabet, but will also integrate this learning through art, movement, and deciphering "secret messages" during each meeting. We plan to provide children a fun and creative experience that helps students recognize the lifelong skills and benefits gained from learning to read and write in cursive, while nurturing and instilling an appreciation of the art of cursive handwriting. Coding 12 The 12 Coding course will introduce fundamental components of coding to students using various game based programs. The students will explore this new skill through hands on and creative play. Coding 35 The 35 Coding course will explore the basics of coding using various programs and easy to find resources. The students will learn in a fun and creative environment to allow them to expand and develop this very essential 21st century skill. Coding 68 The 68 Coding course will allow the students, new and experienced, at coding to explore javascript through a couple of resources. The students will code using advanced rules as they progress through the class. We will also explore app creation for our phones. Young Inventors 13 Young Inventors 35 "Young Inventors" is a twoweek class where creativity meets production. This unique and exciting class will allow students to dream, design, and build their ideas. Inventors will think the unthinkable, create new possibilities, discover solutions, and "pitch" their products. This exciting summer class will inspire students to be creative, use teamwork to accomplish goals, problem solve through difficult situations, and inspire the next generation of inventors!. Fitness/Rec 12 Fitness/Rec 34 The course will provide an environment for students of all abilities to develop their minds and bodies through fun physical activities. fun and dynamic experience in an environment enabling them to reach their full­potential both physically and mentally.  Activities taught will include but won’t be limited to fitness, team sports, outdoor education, team­building, and recreation/leisure games.  Among many other benefits, this course will help students develop positive lifestyle behaviors at an early age. 

Visual Arts 1­3  Visual Arts 3­5 

Draw, Paint, Create! This elementary visual art class will engage all students with a wide variety of media ­ drawing, painting, and sculpting with clay is just the start. We will “travel” to different countries each day and create works of art based on cultural traditions. Students will leave the class with many completed works of art and inspiration to keep them going the rest of the summer! 

Visual Arts 6­8  Get ready to create art! Students will feed their creative energy building on and enhancing their existing skills in the visual art class while completing artwork that connects to an overall theme with a 2­D and/or 3­D product. Each day will also introduce additional exploration in art through activities, materials and skills to add to the art­making experience. 

Creative Writing 3­5 

The ES Creative Writing Enrichment Experience will give students an opportunity to expand their writing skills while utilizing their creativity in narratives, opinion and informational writing.  Students will produce a collection of writing that will showcase their abilities and interests in different types of writing such as essays, poetry, informative pieces, among others. 

Creative Writing 6­8 

The MS Creative Writing Enrichment Experience will allow students of all levels and backgrounds to improve their writing through a variety of styles. We’ll focus on small pieces of writing first (poems, short descriptions, and flash fiction). The smaller pieces will focus on word choice for emphasis. Then we will move into longer pieces, always emphasizing creativity and fun as we write. Be ready to laugh and learn!  

Game Strategy 1­8  Students will learn the finer points of challenging strategic games like chess and other board games.  Students will gain a deep knowledge of these games.  Players of all abilities will benefit and a high degree of new learning will occur.  The session will culminate with a chess tournament for the participants. 

Drama/Performing Arts 1­5 

The grades 1­5 Performing Arts Experience will introduce students to drama and theater in a fun and interactive way.  We will explore improvisation, character development, costume and set design through games and creative activities.  We will cap the experience with a theater showcase that the whole family can attend and enjoy!

Arts 6­8  the fundamentals of acting: how to approach a script, character development through movement and vocalization, theatre terminology. We will use creative exploration, improv games and theatre activities to do the work that actors do and build skills as theatre artists. 

Debate 5­6  In our Summer Debate Enrichment Experience students will explore individual debate and team debate where they can build their case with others to make it stronger.  We will focus on critical thinking, researching a topic, active listening, writing arguments and counterarguments as well as many more skills that are naturally addressed in debates. 

Debate 7­8  In our Summer Debate Enrichment Experience students will be interested and engaged working on important written and oral communication skills in a real world debate format.  We will focus on critical thinking, researching a topic, active listening, writing arguments and counterarguments as well as many more skills that are naturally addressed in debates.
