Thesis title: Studies on Microporous and Mesoporous materials supported Hydrotreating catalysts

1. Synthesis and characterization of mesoporous molecular sieves like SBA-15, SBA-16,

KIT-6, FSM-16 and their Al, Ti, Zr substituted materials. 2. Acidity measurements using microcalorimetric ammonia adsorption and DRIFTS

pyridine adsorption methods. Evaluation of acidity of various supported metal sulfide catalysts using in situ microcalorimetric ammonia adsorption method.

3. Preparation of Mo, CoMo, NiMo, W, NiW, CoW catalysts by incipient-wetness impregnation method using different supports like microporous zeolite and mesoporous silica.

4. Evaluation of various hydrotreating catalytic functionalities like Hydrodesulfurization, hydrogenation, and hydrocracking in a fixed-bed glass micro reactor operating at atmospheric pressure using model compounds (Thiophene, cyclohexene, cumene)

Catalyst synthesis for the conversion of various heterogeneous catalytic reactions in

particular catalysis related to fossil fuels.

Experience in preparing various supported and nanoparticle based catalysts by IWI, solgel, CVD, reverse micelle techniques, and template methods.

Temperature programmed reduction (TPD/TPR 2900, Micromeritics, USA)

Identifying crystalline phases on catalytic surfaces using X-ray diffraction (XRD Rigaku

Interpretation of data obtained from ESCA and solid state NMR especially Si and Al nuclei.

Hands on experiences to work with laboratory scale micro fixed-bed and CSTR reactors for testing of Fe and Co based Fischer-Tropsch catalysts at high temperatures and pressures.

Gas chromatographic analysis of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis products.

Estimation of deuterium contents in FT synthesis products using GC-MS.

Hands on experience with HR-TEM (Knowledge on HRTEM usage for the study of

metal particle dispersion)

Hands on experience with SEM (S4800, Hitachi) and EDX to study the morphology and elemental mapping for various Fe and cobalt FT catalysts.
