• Provided strategic leadership and vision for the development and delivery of more than $13 million in educational programs, products and services. Program design and process decisions were made under my supervision to satisfy identified educational needs and preferences of the FFA’s national student membership (457,000+) and their teachers (11,000+) and realize the mission and strategic priorities of the National FFA Organization.

• Recruited, selected, coached, counseled, and evaluated 25 professional and support staff in order to realize program excellence and cost effectiveness as well as increase each individual’s capacity to succeed in a positive team environment and a professional learning-centered workplace. During 2001-2002, this included change management activities to transform the Education Division from a programmatic orientation to one centered on business functions.

• Provided leadership towards the creation and implementation of an educational program evaluation system for the National FFA Organization. This includes service on the Information Technology Steering Committee to combine the company’s technology plan with evaluation data collection towards a vision of an on-line student portfolio.

• Served as Publisher of FFA New Horizons. This 36-page student publication is published 6 times a year with a circulation of more than 527,000. The magazine was awarded 1st place at the NAMA Region IV conference in Company Publications—Internal category in 2002.

• Served as project manager for the National FFA Officer selection process (1998-present), New Century Farmer program (1998-2000), Tractor Restoration program (1998-1999) and Risk Management Essay contest (1998-1999).

• Produced organizational position papers and other creative works, authored magazine and journal articles for national publication, and represented the National FFA Organization at specified meetings and events.

• Responsible for all development and fund raising activities from external nonprofit sources (foundations and individuals) in the western half of the United States as well as assisted with U.S.D.A. and U.S.D.E. funding efforts.

• Provided assistance to National FFA Organization staff and other agricultural education groups in areas such as program materials development, National Convention planning, National FFA officers' tour and project status reports to funding sources.

• During my tenure, the 7 person fund raising staff secured more than $14 million in annual gifts and $5.2 million for a capital campaign fund from corporate and nonprofit sources.

Professor-in-Charge, Agriculture Distance Education Programs, Iowa State University, College of Agriculture, Ames, IA (.40 FTE). August 1993 to December 1995. Position had two primary administrative responsibilities:

(1) B.S. and Masters of Professional Agriculture Degree Programs. Responsibilities were: o Administration of degree programs and supervision of office staff. Represented the College

of Agriculture in distance education meetings and efforts. Recruited and advised distance students.

o Established the schedule of courses for distance delivery for each semester and the appropriate media delivery systems (videotape, satellite and two-way interactive fiber optic).

o Trained and coached College of Agriculture instructors and departments on distance education instructional design and delivery.

o Conducted market research and analysis activities for distance-delivered agriculture courses. Conducted or approved all program-related research efforts. Directed the advertising and promotional efforts of the two degree programs.

Accomplishments of Professional Agriculture Degree Programs o Completed a comprehensive program evaluation process (with an external review team) of

the Masters and Bachelors of Agriculture degree programs. This was the first such evaluation of an Iowa State University’s distance-delivered degree program.

o Developed and implemented a 4-year rotation of distance education courses within the College of Agriculture thus allowing students to plan and complete their off-campus degree in a timely manner.

o Cooperated with College of Agriculture administration to secure distance education course development funds for involved departments within the College.

o Developed and delivered distance education instructional design and technology training programs for College faculty.

o Developed a partnership for the delivery of ISU 100- and 200-level courses via the Iowa Communications Network (ICN - a two-way full-motion live video & audio delivery system via fiber optics) — delivery began Fall 1994.

o Coordinated with Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Preventive Medicine (MIPM) for the delivery of courses/Master’s degree via a business partnership agreement with Fort Dodge Laboratories, Mason, IA.

o Developed and implemented a nation-wide marketing plan for the degree programs. Completed a new program brochure and catalog that improved the image of the program as well as streamlined admissions and enrollment procedures.

o Enhanced the program and daily office operations into a single document for faculty review and strategic planning purposes. Developed a computer database for the purpose of improving off-campus student record management and advisement.

(2) Development of the Brenton Center for Agricultural Instruction and Technology Transfer

Chaired the planning committee and oversaw the development of the Brenton Center for Agricultural Instruction and Technology Transfer project. This $1.4 million remodeling project created a multimedia teaching and learning center within the College of Agriculture that included distance delivery capabilities. Personal activity included:

o Clarified the Brenton Center’s features and functions into a single document for planning and promotional efforts. Reviewed selected Iowa and national sites for the purpose of defining Center design features and elements. Met with architects to develop and finalizing the Center design.

o Met with numerous equipment vendors/companies through face-to-face meetings and by telephone in pursuit of product contributions or beta-site agreements. Supervised construction and equipment installation.

o Developed Brenton Center promotional materials for the purpose of soliciting additional Center contributions. Made presentations to current and prospective sponsors. Dedication ceremony media presentation placed 3rd in national competition.

Education Consultant—Agriculture, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Madison, WI. December 1990 to July 1993. • Provided statewide leadership and technical assistance in the improvement of Wisconsin's 263 local

agriculture programs (with emphasis on grades 7-12) as well as to the state FFA, FFA Alumni, FFA Foundation, Wisconsin Leadership Council for Ag. Education, Wisconsin Agri-Business Council and other related organizations.

• Directed curriculum development and in-service activities for secondary agriculture instruction (Topics include "Paper Science," "Aquaculture," and "Agricultural Literacy").

• Assisted in the development of various components related to the State's School-to-Work educational reform initiative including Tech Prep and Youth Apprenticeship options, State Educational Goals & Learner Outcomes, and the WI Student Assessment System.

• Edited the Focus: Agricultural Education (Wisconsin Ag. Ed. newsletter) and Wisconsin Ag Ed & FFA News (a weekly electronic bulletin board news service).

• Represented Wisconsin at various national meetings related to agricultural education, FFA, and the federal Carl Perkins Vocational Education & Applied Technology Act performance measures and standards.

• Administered federal vocational education (Carl Perkin's Act) and federal civil rights regulations to sixty-four Wisconsin secondary schools districts.

• Coordinated state dissemination of Center for Occupational Research & Development's Applied Biology/Chemistry curriculum.

• Chaired state committee for the establishment of the Wisconsin FFA Center.
