Dr. Christopher Oludhe is a Meteorologist by profession and Lecturer in the Department of Meteorology, University
of Nairobi. His area of specialization is Renewable Energy in general with special focus on Regional Wind Energy
Assessment Studies. Dr. Oludhe has conducted all his research work at MSc. and Ph.D on wind energy assessment
studies and which were carried out both locally and abroad. He has written and presented a number of papers in the
same field at a number various workshops and seminars.
Besides working in the field of Renewable Energy, Dr. Oludhe has been engaged in various consultancy work for a
number of projects on climate impacts and applications. Some examples include consultancies on The El-Nino
Emergency Project carried out between September 1999 - March 2000 titled: Impacts of El-Nino/Southern
Oscillation on Transport and Energy Sectors of Kenya. A book was finally published on the same at the end of this
project titled “ Once Burnt, twice Shy?”. Dr. Oludhe has also been one of the consultants for the Climate Change
Project in Kenya: Vulnerability, Adaptation and Policy Options for adequate monitoring systems and response
strategies. He has successfully worked on a number of projects for DMC-Nairobi. One of the projects was a Pilot
Application Project in which the Impacts of the 1999/2000 La-Nina drought on electricity generation in Kenya were
examined while the other project involved assessing how climate information and prediction products can be
factored into disaster management for the Energy, Industry, Transport and Communication Sectors respectively. A
book was finally published for the second project titled “Factoring Weather and Climate information and
Products into Disaster Management Policy, A contribution to strategies for disaster management in Kenya., July
2002”.
Dr. Oludhe has presented many papers on Climate change issues for the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA) both locally
and abroad. Dr. Oludhe is a member of the expert team on CLIPS Operations, Verification and Application of the
World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Dr. Oludhe was recently requested by WMO to assist the Zambian
Meteorological Department develop a concept paper on the socio-economic benefits of Meteorological data and
information for hydropower generation in Zambia. Dr. Oludhe has been involved in the development of a Wind
Energy Resource Atlas Project (WERAP) for Kenya in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy (MoE), Kenya
Meteorological Department and the Regional Centre for Resource Mapping and Development (RCMRD). Dr.
Oludhe also assisted in developing a Wind Energy Atlas for Kenya under the Solar and Wind Energy Resource
