Two-week faculty-led international program (FLiP) touring breweries and distilleries in Ireland

and England to understand history, impacts, styles, and technologies; serves as an elective course

for Brewery Engineering minor. Spring 2018: 10 students, 1 community participant.

CHME 495 Brewing Science and Technology

Senior-level lecture and lab course covering technical aspects of brewing from ingredient

selection to unit operations to brewery economics; serves as required capstone course for

Brewery Engineering minor. Spring 2018: 17 students.

CHME 301 Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics I

Sophomore-level lecture course covering mass, energy and entropy balances, engines,

refrigerators, and properties of ideal and real pure substances. Spring 2018: 35 students, Spring

CHME 306 Transport Phenomena II: Heat and Mass Transfer

Junior-level lecture course covering conduction, convection, radiation, heat exchangers and 1-D

CHME 485/585 Materials from Biorenewable Resources

Dual-level elective course covering biomass composition, production systems, harvesting,

Engineering Research Center for Biorenewable Chemicals (CBiRC), Iowa State University, 2011

One of two instructors responsible for designing and conducting a 3-week intensive Summer

Academy on biofuels and bio-products for 11 local middle school teachers in July, 2011.

Responsibilities included designing and setting up two laboratory spaces in new facility to be

used for independent student projects in biorenewable resources and technology, an

undergraduate lab course, and pre-college outreach activities. Final product includes procedures

and handout materials for 8 laboratory exercises.
