Who I amMy name is Valentina and I’m a young designer from Torino.

In my opinion, Design is not fashion, is not style, cool, “moda”… Design is Project, it is a problem when is has been solved. Design is not an empty adjective: it is a process. It means analysis, search, elaboration, responsibility. Talking about Design such as “something that is trendy” means debase its importance and its role in shaping the world. Design is a cultural and social actor, because everything we use, all material things (and services) that permit us to live and to define our social identity are objects/subjects of Design processes. At the end, Design allows us to give a shape to life, customs, acts, rituals, to everything we use moulding the “Society”, because it concerns every aspect of cultural reality. So, if you ask me what is, in my opinion, one of the biggest design objects, I’ll answer “MOKA BIALETTI”.

I think we need a change and everyone has a responsibility in this path. I think that the environment must be preserved, because we have only one Earth, and without it we cannot live. I think that ecology mustn’t be a choice, but the ordinary way to do; and that it is not recycling what we consume more and more quickly. In order to be real ecologists, we have to change remote causes. I agree with Serge Latouche’s philoso-phy.

If you ask me what is sustainability, I’ll answer that is the respect (and love) not only of the environment, but also of cultures, traditional knowledge and, in the end, of people themselves.


Valentina is from a normal Italian family; all you have to know about her parents is that they have done an honest job for all their lives. University taught her teamwork, but also flexibility and flair for adapting herself to different working and relational condi-tions. She learnt to examine facts in a systemic way and to administrate the com-plexity of reality.

Valentina loves animals and adores cats. She likes reading, going to the cinema and, when she has time, visiting museums. She loves drawing and reading comics.

Valentina is disposed to travel and move away, because she likes confronting herself with different situations and she wishes to do new experiences.
