RESUMÉ Brendan John Donaldson

Australia 4053 Phone: 61 402 154280 [email protected] www.brendandonaldson.com

CAREER Throughout my career people have been steadily progressing toward measuring success in business in more ways than just monetary wealth. It is important now to consider people and their environment as they relate to your business and your clients’ business. Simplistic views of driving employees to wring the last drop of sweat from them have been replaced with an understanding that employees work well when considered as whole people. Each person capable of delivering the requirements of their role as agreed for the organisation to prosper. As a manager of my own knowledge, information, technology, employees and client accounts, I have determined the aspects of personal and business motivations that encourage people to continue supportively entering into ongoing relationships of trust. Building an understanding of people, their motivations and their requirements has been integral to my ability to succeed for organisations and help them profit in many ways throughout my business career. By properly analysing and understanding customer needs and devising and delivering solutions with proper implementation of technology I will be able to help your organisation retain your existing customer base while developing additional clients. I strive for excellence in my work and have a thorough understanding of organisational needs. Your company will profit as a result of my business, technical and people skills developed across decades in several industries.

CAREER HISTORY

Brendan John Donaldson: Writer/Consultant July 2005 - 2020

The last thirteen years I've been researching ‘Technology with People’ and discovered a complex of differences I call the Understanding Differential. As part of my understanding of the uniqueness of each person and everything, I discovered the Homo Genus: humanity; has evolved enabling generations of people working in organisations to be 'automated' instead of automating machines. The 'Understanding Differential' is the difference between each person's unique understanding of everything, individually and collectively, including people and technology. My ABN 51 419 322 631 is my own since starting in sole tradership in 2005. Whole of Organisation Consulting/Organisational Officer My discoveries are significant and will be delivered as a complete work, Extrapolate and Suspend Disbelief with the subtitle, Supportive Interactions of Individuals and Collectives in Organisational Structure. The work will incorporate The Balance Achievement and Maintenance Programme (The Programme or BAaMP), conceived and developed by me alone for implementation in every organisation. The completed work will detail the Preliminary and 5 stages of The Programme and will be offered for sale in print and software, both of which I am still writing. BAaMP software will include a digital copy of the book and offered some three or four years after the initial print offering will continue to carry the name, Balance Achievement and Maintenance Programme (BAaMP Software or The Programme Software). My career interests and aspirations are in technologies and evolutions that help people create solutions within their organisational and personal requirements. Until the book is completed and selling well I hope to receive paid consulting work to Assess | Adjust | Automate machines instead of people: My knowledge from experience and research bettering your own or your clients' organisation. I have conceived and developed as part of The Programme and my Assess | Adjust | Automate consulting offerings, writings such as the following paragraph on achieving repair of imbalance within your organisation:

"Assessment, adjustment and automation of machines instead of people: The origins of organisation were developed and have persisted with inaccurate information because of differences in understanding. In existence since well before organisations, the Understanding Differential relates to the ways and timing of peoples' understanding individually and collectively. Process requires humans after machines in assessment to determine adjustment. Identify, understand and repair imbalance in your organisation with the help of generalist and specialist researchers working for you in your workplace. Individual and collective role 'Trajectories' will be created and adjusted from digitised 'Live' and 'Static' research and new understanding of ancestry and divisive behaviours in the development of organisations will help create short term and long term with 'Suspended Disbelief' planning that enables supportive interactions within your organisation and in external interactions."

Also offered in exchange for payment are writing services customised for workplace requirements in any aspects of business or organisational interactions or marketing within or external to your own or your clients' organisation. I apply individually for each advertised role of interest to me and have offered my services to write or train as contract (ABN 51 419 322 631 Sole Trader) or employee. Writer/creator: Two page article, “Technology with People” subtitled, “Art as Document”, for the 2018, fourth quarter (Q4) issue of http://www.creativetravellermag.com (pages 63 & 64). From CIO’s and senior IT leaders in corporations and government agencies, to business leaders in high-tech and telecom enterprises and professional services firms, to technology investors… headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A.

Commenced with Gartner April 2001 as Enquiry Specialist (Asia Pacific Enquiry Centre); subsequently promoted to Team Leader (Asia Pacific Enquiry Centre); then Business Analyst, Cross Technology Program, Asia Pacific (CrossTech); then Senior Business Analyst (CrossTech,

Asia Pacific); then Team Leader/Senior Business Analyst. Gartner offers research and advice to the IT&T industry.

I commenced employment with Gartner in April 2001 and during my years of service achieved several promotions. I was able to negotiate a transfer to the Cross Technology Group as Business Analyst servicing Australian and New Zealand clients and progressed to Senior BA then Asia Pacific Team Leader with a small team of Business Analysts (BA’s) and Senior BA’s reporting to me. March 11, 2004: received a “Special Recognition Award”.

The Business Analysts role within the Cross Technology Group (CrossTech) incorporated liaising with clients to determine their business needs and subsequent research requirements then sourcing appropriate research to help clients achieve their objectives as discussed. Educating the clients in available research and how best to benefit from that research was integral in helping clients succeed. A specific program offered for the Investment community (Gartner Invest) was also managed by my team.

CrossTech primarily comprises quantitative analysis and relates to marketplaces within the Asia Pacific region. It was also important that the BA’s have a good working knowledge of the qualitative research available from Gartner since the personal service offered usually encourages the BA to be the first person called when marketing and strategic data or information is required.

ProClarity, Excel and PowerPoint were the tools most often used for manipulation and presentation of data. Business Analysts were required to liaise not only with clients’ research staff but regularly spoke with senior people in major corporations. Much of the work of collecting and collating good useful research was on an adhoc basis but also included specific projects designed with the client to determine new markets or investigate the likelihood of introducing products, consolidating product offerings or in the case of investment bankers, determining the viability of potential investments.

Enquiry Specialists in the Asia Pacific Enquiry Centre (the initial role to which I was appointed) involved less analysis of questions and locating appropriate research for answers. There was more of a requirement for scheduling in the Enquiry Specialist role and the contact / discussion time with clients and understanding of clients’ questions usually develops over time.

1. High level skills in analysing organisational issues and providing management advice At Gartner I was charged with transitioning the office in India to become the site for the new Asia Pacific Inquiry Team. In Japan the Inquiry and Business Analyst teams where to be transitioned to more closely align with international requirements. The processes involved creating an understanding of the requirements of the role as interpreter of questions and liaison with industry and business analysts. It also involved education in processes and proper use of proprietary and other software to interact with clients and analysts. Testimonials from the previous team manager and the Indian country manager at that time are available.

In 2005 after almost four years with Gartner Research I accepted a contract with Gartner Consulting on The Smart Directions Statement for Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The report, "Statement of ICT Trends and Emerging Technologies" was completed in response to Action 1.2 of Smart Directions and called for development of a statement of ICT trends and emerging technologies to inform whole-of-Government and agency ICT planning and decision making. After discussion, it was agreed I would develop and deliver the interactive matrix of trends across the five focus areas in an electronic format for delivery of print requirements for the contract between

Gartner and State Government, Queensland. Each of the focus areas have information available in 32 Statement Topics ranging from Application Development to Wireless Networking. Topics outline ICT trends and emerging technologies across the set of 32 currently important technology topics. For each of those topics we were considering technologies likely to be in common use within five to ten years, but could also be in use within two or as many as twenty years. In addition to developing and contributing to the electronic Statement (the original brief was for the Statement delivered on paper) I was able to devise a matrix that enabled the addition of updated information over time so that individual sections of Government would be able to reduce the multiple replication of work that had been common before that time and is expected to be further improved by informing whole-of-Government and agency ICT planning and decision making. Meetings were held with Principal Policy Officer, Strategy and Governance Office of Government ICT, who was managing the project for Government. Other meetings were held with Senior ICT people and other interested parties to review the matrix at several intervals. Adjustments were made as required and the statement was delivered close to the agreed time even though I discovered that a much longer timeframe should really have been allowed for completion. The development time was reduced by arranging help from Gartner's Secondary Research team with their Manager at that time and having another Gartner Consultant and I edit Industry Analyst responses which also reduced my own written input. In the years preceding Gartner I also gained much experience in small business software development, processes and business methodologies while with Infocis Pty Ltd, a company now owned and run by my brother since I left in 2001. 2. Ability to design, develop and implement surveys, analyse data and provide reports and recommendations in a variety of formats and at the relevant level 2001 to 2005 I was employed by Gartner, world’s leading information technology research and advisory corporation providing advice and guidance for ICT questions to determine solutions. I commenced work with Gartner as an Enquiry Specialist (Asia Pacific Enquiry Centre) and was subsequently promoted to Team Leader (Asia Pacific Enquiry Centre); then Business Analyst, Cross Technology Program (Asia Pacific CrossTech); then Senior Business Analyst (CrossTech, Asia Pacific); then Team Leader/Senior Business Analyst. As Team Leader I managed a team with Senior Business Analysts, Business Analysts and Specialists in Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Japan and Australia and clients throughout the Asia Pacific region. In those years I developed general and specialist knowledge of Information services and the regulatory environment that related to not only Gartner but also the many clients I serviced in that time. Information was grouped into products and services that included qualitative and quantitative, industry and markets. In most instances, seat licenses were sold to each individual within an organisation to access the information online in the form of a report or arrange a call with an Industry or business analyst to discuss specific situations or plans. There were at times difficulties with some organisations trying to share seats that were meant for individuals and many “work-arounds” were devised and tested to overcome those specific difficulties. By sharing ideas within teams and throughout the organisation we were able to trial various suggestions to try to maintain improvement in both proper usage of seats and growth in sales. It is important to encourage proper usage by offering genuinely useable payment and usage systems. 3. High level computing skills - databases, spreadsheets, word processing and specialist survey software Tools most often used for manipulation and presentation of data, other than proprietary tools were, ProClarity, Excel and PowerPoint. Business Analysts were required to liaise not only with clients’ research staff but regularly spoke with senior people in major corporations. Much of the work of collecting, collating and disseminating good useful data and information was on an adhoc basis but also included specific projects designed with the client to determine new markets or investigate the

I have also had broad exposure to other related regulatory environment and have been involved directly and indirectly with telecommunications since the beginning of deregulation including the transition to an independent National Regulatory body. It is important to work with private enterprise to help businesses and individual people to develop and commercialise their ideas rather than try to assimilate everything into Government business. During my employment with Infocis Pty Ltd I successfully completed a Quality Management course run by the government and a Train the Trainer course. 4. Excellent interpersonal, liaison, negotiation, consultation written and verbal communication skills

I am a senior manager with genuine generalist and specialised knowledge of information and markets with an understanding of individuals within and outside of business collectives. Experience and understanding of multinational through to micro businesses and success with people by helping individuals understand their situation and help them create solutions by question, discuss, educate, create, innovate and integrate. I possess a good understanding of qualitative and quantitative research, information processes and have had a 25+ years professional sales career. Knowledge, experience and understanding of business and technology as it relates to: Information, I.T. and telecommunications technology, industry and markets Finance; consumer electrical and electronics; fashion; hospitality; medical; building; engineering; Digital media, web publishing; process and content management; training People, computerisation, the convergence of technologies and the future of each and all The Business Analysts role within the Gartner Cross Technology Group (CrossTech) incorporated liaising with clients to determine their business needs and subsequent research requirements then sourcing appropriate research to help clients achieve their objectives as discussed.

5. High level project management skills 1994 - 2001 I was employed by INFOCIS Pty Ltd is a small business based in Brisbane, Australia that started as a reseller of hardware and software and developed into an Internet publisher at a time when the World Wide Web was just being conceived. INFOCIS has expanded its horizons to include servicing global clients with Web Services in USA, Thailand, New Zealand and Vanuatu, while still servicing Australia. Throughout those years I consulted, negotiated, liaised and influenced management and staff at every level. Including clients of INFOCIS; InForm Systems; Grant News; AIMIA: Austrade (Project Manager, Export Access Program); State Development; MacPeople; and Odyssey Training. Communicated and sold concepts or products to people since 1980. Developed and delivered training or sales presentations for INFOCIS, AIMIA and Odyssey Training. I have been designing and delivering training since 1984 and have had a training component in almost every role. Within that Business Development role I developed an intimate knowledge and understanding of the Internet and its structure, community, business, political understanding and use of the Internet. The direction new developments are currently headed and, most importantly: what people will use and how. I gained an understanding of telecommunications from initial discussion of requirements to cut-over and on-going service within a private telecommunications firm at the beginning of deregulation of the industry. In those and other roles, Project and Program Management within various organisations and including an IT industry body working on behalf of Austrade helping companies to get offshore. In all, a good general understanding of the management of and convergence of new and existing technologies and teams of people required. In the terms of my first paid employment, I have "worked my way up from the shop floor" to achieve skills and knowledge of my one life that is my own to value and no other person or Law in existence. My first management job was at age 21 as assistant manager of a retail electrical business turning over A$1 Million. At that time I had the first of my two children who are now adults. My understanding of how to provide genuinely valuable solutions and lasting trusted relationships is integrated with knowledge of technology that comes from personal interest and hands-on experience in design, development and delivery. I remember when logistics corporations were called trucking companies and why these days they are a part of supply chain management which is part of enterprise resource planning where once they just ‘delivered stuff’. References who can attest to my professionalism and service delivery from the 1970's to now will be available for confirmation when appointment is decided. It is my understanding that every client or company I have ever provided a product or service would be glad to work with me again to help them with their business once more. In Gartner they include CIO’s and senior IT leaders in corporations and government agencies, to business leaders in high-tech and telecom enterprises and professional services firms, to technology investors. Their resources included Gartner Research; Executive Programs; Consulting; and Events; working with clients to research, analyse and interpret the business of IT within the context of roles. My many instances of promotions within organisations are directly attributable to offering and providing excellent service and actually helping clients improve their business, personal life or standing. In maintaining relationships with clients and stakeholders at any levels within business I have been able not only to maintain existing relationships but also to understand potential prospects for new business and build within the structures and frameworks that exist in the client business, at times helping to refine or redefine business plans, technology audits and marketing strategies. Most of my previous full time positions have involved an element if not a majority of educating non-technical people regarding products and services of technology. A translator of understanding as appropriate setting of expectation, my patience in helping people grasp difficult concepts has proven to be useful especially when it is necessary to educate people from completely unrelated fields or from languages and cultures other than English.
