The Vision of the JMDS&E
[2]
“To teach the complexities of data
entrepreneurship, our program
combines evidence-based
learning with
experience-based learning. Therefore, [we] develop practical
(Big data) applications and
prototypes, we will host an
elaborate mentoring program, and
give students the real-life
experience of starting
their own data venture.”

On Demand Skills Training
• JADS’s MDS&E is a program that equals the intensity of being in a real start-up.
Coaching students in this high-pressure environment is necessary and truly
beneficial to their progress and learning.
• Every student has a coach that knows about and is available in all stages of their
studies.
• Potentially, students keep an online log / reporting tool to keep track on their
skillset, so the coach can get a quick overview of their performance.
• Students and coach sign a document in which they explicitly state their ambition to
work on the student’s development.
• Students are responsible for their own learning trajectories, but coaches can
incentivize and direct them in target-setting and (self-) evaluation.
• Coaches follow a recurring meeting schedule but are available when needed.
• After a discussion with a coach, additional on demand skill training is available
through the on-demand skills offering (see previous chapter).
• After a year, a mentor is available to the student to help them with more content-
specific question; in a meeting coach, mentor and student agree on the
development path in the last year.
• The mentor is the key to their to-be-grown network, he or she is an experienced
entrepreneur and will act as a critical friend.

• If needed and after discussion with their coach, a student can
apply for additional coaching at all TU/e and TiU’s facilities – the
